An hysterical parent calls E-911 to report her small child has accidentally been shot, and a dispatcher quickly responds by sending emergency personnel to the site of the crisis.
Does this incident sound a little bit like a TV show? Maybe. Did this really happen? Yes, and it happened in White County.
The job of an E-911 dispatcher is like no other career. Words cannot define the stress that becomes a part of their daily lives. However, according to Pam Hickey, a 12-year veteran of this profession, she will continue to serve the people of White County until she retires.

Pilot escapes serious injuries from plane crash

In the picturesque setting among green grass fields and red barns of Bon Air, the pilot of a Cessna 172 fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft attempted an emergency landing in an open field when he hit a tree on the way down.
The pilot, lone occupant of the plane, crashed at approximately 12:19 p.m., Sept. 30, 2005.
One of the wings was sheared off by contact with the tree causing the plane to tumble into the field, finally coming to rest on its top.

Paintball incidents under investigation

Incidents involving paintball guns are being blamed for at least one motor vehicle crash and two individuals needing medical treatment for eye injuries.
Several other reports of vandalism kept officers tied up for hours Thursday evening and into the following early morning hours.
“It is really becoming a problem,” said Chief Jeff Guth, Sparta Police Department, “It is a nuisance. We are going to have to get some help from parents and everybody involved on this. We have tried to convince the young people that this is not the way to do it. There are ways to have fun, but this is not the way.

Sonja Lucille Woods, 47, of Spencer, passed away Sept. 27, 2005.
Woods was born June 27, 1958, in Painsville, Ohio, to Isom Worthington and Sophia Bryant Stiles
She was preceded in death by her father, and her husband, Neil Emory Woods Jr.
Survivors include one son, Andrew Trace Woods; mother Sophia Bryant Stiles; one sister, Mildred Hillis, all of Spencer; two brothers, James Reynolds and wife Joyce, of Spencer, Joe McReynolds and wife Dot, of McMinnville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were 2 p.m., Sept. 30, 2005 at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home with burial in Town Cemetery.

Margaret Ruth Frasier Hudgens, 90, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 1, 2005.
Hudgens was born Feb. 16, 1915, in White County, to William Cosby and Elizabeth Anderson Frasier.
She had been a homemaker.
Hudgens was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hudgens; three sisters, Jonnie Prater, Dorris Moores, Martha Ellen Wilson; and two brothers, James Frasier and Charles Frasier.

Ann Cummings Scott, 74, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 29, 2005.
Scott was born, May 4, 1931, in White County to Harry Lee and Verla Jane Williams Cummings.
She was retired from the ASCS Office.
Scott was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Maude Ellen Cummings; and one brother, Harry Lee Cummings, Jr..
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Scott; son, Ronald Lee Scott and wife Gail, of Sparta; and brother, Joe Cummings, of Houston.
Services were 2 p.m., Oct. 2, 2005 at First Christian Church with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Russell Ragovin officiated.

Claude C. Hensley

Claude C. Hensley, 91, of Cookeville, passed away Sept. 28, 2005.
He was born, April 6, 1914, in Jackson County, to Frank and Loretta Loftis Hensley.
Hensley was a member of Post Oak Cumberland Presbyerian Church and a mobile home salesman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace Norene Vantrease Hensley; two brothers, Ensel V. and Sherrill B. Hensley; and one sister, Mildread B. Bowling.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Hensley, of Sparta, Ronnie and wife Georgia Brown Hensley, of Cookeville; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Services were 11 a.m., Oct. 1, 2005 at Whitson Funeral Home with burial Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery.

Johnny Eugene Delong, 44, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 29, 2005.
Delong was born, Sept. 12, 1961, in Spencer, to Jim and Imogene Bouldin Delong.
He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Delong was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Joene Bouldin, John and Pauline Delong; and great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Guy.
