Carmel Wesley Hicks, 85, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 25, 2005.
Hicks was born May 6, 1920, in Jackson County, to Sidney Hicks and Susan Jackson Hicks Rice.
He had been employed at Cantec Manufacturing.
Hicks was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Winnie Ester Keen Hicks.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Brown, Betty and Shawn Vickers, all of Sparta, four grandchildren, Tammy Pinkston and husband Eugene, Lisa Rice and husband Richard, Michael Vickers and wife Barbie, Wesley Vickers; and nine great-grandchildren.

Troy L. Henry, 74, of Sparta passed away Dec. 22, 2005, at Erlanger Hospital, in Chattanooga.
Henry was born July 20, 1931, in the Board Valley community, of White County, to Alva and Dovie Mae Henry.
He was a member of Findlay Church of Christ. Henry was a retired truck driver and an avid fisherman.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy Henry and Carl Henry.

Sam Kirk Gardner, 45, of Alma, Ill., passed away Dec. 17, 2005.
Gardner was born June 24, 1960, in Sparta, to Sam B. Gardner and Alberta Wilhite Gardner.
He graduated from White County High School, Tennessee Technological University and Southern Illinois University.
He was working as a design engineer for Air Stamping.
Gardner had been a devoted husband, father and son.
He was active in the lives his children and their friends, taking them on outings, taking Karate lessons with them and going to the movies.
Gardner was an active member of Salem Church of Christ, where he led singing and sometimes preached.

Anna E. McBride, 86, of Quebeck, passed away Dec. 17, 2005.
McBride was born in White County, to Charlie Deaton and Bertha Mae Moore.
She had been employed in the garment industry.
McBride was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Stewart McBride; two sisters, Josie Mae Tindle, Pearl Barger; and three brothers, Carl Deaton, Frank Deaton, and Everett Deaton.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny McBride and wife Patty, of Quebeck, Ronnie McBride and Cynthia, of Sparta; one daughter, Wanda Nelson, of Smyrna; three grandchildren, Matthew, Kelly, Samantha, all of Sparta; and two nieces, Sue Richardson and Betty Parsely, both of Doyle.

Freshman teams split district pair at Cookeville

Loose ball. Freshman Warriorettes, Keshia Daniels and Lacy Yslas, put pressure on a Cookeville freshman Lady Cavalier and force a turnover during Monday night’s game.
The Warriorettes did, however, suffer their first loss of the season to the Lady Cavs.

Gus A. Geer, 85, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 10, 2005.
Geer was born March 22, 1920, in White County, to James Geer and Elizabeth Burgess Geer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II
and was ASCS officer.
Geer was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Geer and one sister Avis Demps.
