Sandra H. Maynard, 53, of Sparta, passed away March 30, 2006, at White County Community Hospital.
Maynard was born June 8, 1952, in Sparta, to W.G. and Hattie Jo Rice Hutchings.
Shad had been the office manager at White County Farmers Co-op.
Maynard was preceded in death by her father, W.G. Hutchings.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Maynard, of Sparta; daughter, Lori Maynard, of Sparta; son, Jason Maynard, of Nashville; two grandchildren, Aly and Chloe Maynard, both of Sparta; and her mother, Hattie Jo Hutchings, of Sparta.
Services will be at 5 p.m., April 3, 2006, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with burial in the Black Oak Cemetery. … CONTINUED

Richard “Rick” Keith Young, 46, of Bloomfield, Mich., passed away March 23, 2006, at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
Young was born June 11, 1959, in Highland Park, Mich., to Bobby Young and Lois Virginia Good Young.
He had been an auto painter.
Young was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his children, Keith Young and Kenna Hyles, both of Michigan; father, Bobby Young, of Sparta; two brothers, Karey and wife Pok-Hui Young, of Nashville, and Bruce and wife Laurie Young, of Canada; sister, Tammy Wikersham, of Michigan; and nieces and nephews, Erin, Ashley, Kenyln, Jessica, and Jared.

Arvil Edgar Baker, 95, of Sparta, passed away March 30, 2006, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
Baker was born May 18, 1910, in Putnam County, to Mansfield Baker and Betty Mitchell Baker.
He had been a farmer.
Baker was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Allis Marie Robinson Baker; three sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include his son, Arles Ralph Baker, of Crossville; daughter, Eugenia Elsie Howard, of Sparta; step-son, Tommy Baker, of Sparta; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were 3 p.m., April 2, 2006, at Thurman Funeral Home with burial at Upper Board Valley Cemetery. Bro. Cleve Hitchcock officiated.

Woodrow Otis Doney, 71, of Doyle, passed away March 29, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Doney was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Nashville to the Woodrow William Doney and Hazel Doney.
He was the stepson of Gracie Polste Doney.
Doney had been a lumberman.

Bobbie Sue Guy Wallace, 69, of Old Hickory, passed away March 29, 2006, at Skyline Medical Center.
Wallace was born Feb. 19, 1937, in White County, to Henry Jackson Guy and Minnie Ann Davis Guy.
She had been a supervisor for state mental health.
Wallace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Cecil Wallace; and sister, Anna Brannon.

Dibrell is sentenced in arsons

James Henry Dibrell, 48, of Sparta, pled guilty March 16, 2006, to felony arson charges.
The convicted arsonist was sentenced to 10 years for each church fire, to be served consecutively, and six years for each of the five additional structure fires, to be served concurrently.
“His earliest parole hearing will be in 30 percent of the 20 years,” said Bill Locke, assistant district attorney.
Dibrell was charged just days after the July 2005 early morning fires, which destroyed Robert Street Church of Christ, and severely damaged Kynette Methodist Church, as well as five unoccupied homes in the area located in Sparta.

After more than four decades as one of White County’s major employers, Genlyte Thomas has experienced its “best year ever,” according to plant manager Jim Mellon.
The path to success for Genlyte has followed a rocky road at times, but employees and management at Genlyte are now boasting 2005 as the best year in since the facility located in White County, in 1963.

Physician makes plea to help with WCCH

A concern about the possible loss of the obstetrics department at White County Community Hospital has also led one physician to reach out for help in securing the future of healthcare in the community.
Dr. Chet Gentry, chief of staff at White County Community Hospital, addressed White County Health Council during its Tuesday meeting and talked about the possible loss of O.B. services at WCCH. Gentry, who has practiced medicine in Sparta 14 years, said he is concerned not only about the impact this decision could have on the community, but he is also worried about the future of the entire hospital.
