Edwin R. “Buddy” Dunham, 65, passed away on July 23, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Durham was born Feb. 11, 1941, in DeKalb County, to Othel Floyd Dunham Sr. and Lillie Pauline Washer Dunham.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Oswald Dunham.

Velma Ward Carter, 92, of Sparta, passed away July 20, 2006.
Carter was born May 18, 1914, in White County, to Isaac ‘Ike’ Ward and Fannie Lou Brown Ward.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Carlen and Linda Cruise Carter, and Billy Ward Carter, all of Sparta; one brother, Charlie Clay Ward, of Sparta; five nieces, Nelouise Geer, of Sparta, Tania Elrod, of Cookeville, Rosie Lorine Catron, of McMinnville, Linda Goner, of Cookeville, and Thelma Jean Davidson, of Sparta; three nephews, Jackie Ward, Weslie Ward, and Walter Ward, Jr., all of Cookeville; and friends, Ray and Mae Conant, of Sparta.

Shelby E. Conatser, 67, of Sparta, passed away July 15, 2006, at White County Community Hospital.
Conatser was born Feb. 7, 1939, to Potter Thomas and Nia Allie Beaty Conatser.

American Legion receives ‘thank you’ from teens

The American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary have once again been a integral part in helping shape the lives of several White County teens as sponsors for the youth to attend an event that provided life-changing experiences.
Each year, White County’s American Legion and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, along with the assistance of Sparta civic organizations, sponsor delegates for Tennessee Volunteer Girls State and Tennessee American Legion Boys State.
Six girls and four boys were the recipients of a weeklong adventure most of them said they will never forget. All 10 experienced a journey into learning about the world of government and citizenship.

Malcolm Leon Norton Sr., 72, of Spencer, passed away July 5, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Norton was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Memphis, to Charlie and Geraldean Cool Norton.
Norton was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife, Martha Norton, of Sparta; four children, Leon Norton Jr., of California, Mark Norton, of Texas, Jason Norton, of Spencer, Debbie Norton Lance, of Germany; one sister, Jeanne Hill, of Memphis, and three grandchildren.
Services were 8 a.m., July 8, 2006, at the Love- Cantrell and Cope Spencer Chapel with burial at the Town Cemetery. Tom Farmer officiated.

Creeach was born March 10, 1940, in Detroit, Mich., to David T. and Mary Jane Purcell Creeach.
Creeach worked many years a machinist in the tool and die industry and was a member of the Sparta Masonie Lodge #99.
