Siegel sweeps final district series over WCHS

In the last ever District 7AAA series for the Warrior baseball team, Siegel made things frustrating for WCHS sweeping the two games.
The Warriors, who will be changing districts next season, had little luck handling the Star pitching. WCHS managed just five hits in the two games combined while being outscored 21-1.
Siegel visited Sparta on Friday for senior night and made it a tough final outing for the seven Warrior seniors at Pearson Park. The Stars rolled to the 18-1 five-inning win. … CONTINUED

The White County High School baseball team went into the series with their archrivals with hopes of picking up a pair of wins and moving up in the District 7AAA standings.
The Cookeville Cavaliers had other thoughts. They won the first game 15-5 in six innings and then recorded the 8-0 shut out on Thursday.

Warriorette softball wins three in a row

The solitary number five and a bouquet served as a sad reminder to the Warriorette softball team of a key missing part of the senior night festivities.

Home damaged by blaze

A home on Wesley Chapel Road was severely damaged by fire Wed., April 22, although firefighters responded within four minutes to put out the blaze, according to E-911 records.

Tennis regular season ends with loss to Riverdale

White County High School’s tennis regular season came to a close Tuesday with a loss to Riverdale.
The match actually started a few weeks ago, but weather stopped the contest after only the doubles matches had been completed. Riverdale came back to Sparta on Wednesday and captured wins in both girls’ and boys’ matches. The Warriorettes were defeated 6-1 while the Warriors suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat.

WCHS battles to 4-all tie with MTCS

The Warrior soccer team was in action on consecutive beautiful afternoons at Warrior Stadium.
WCHS played two games, but wasn’t able to pick up a victory, but they also didn’t loss two games. One game was a 4-0 loss to Oakland.
The other contest saw the Warriors overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit to Middle Tennessee Christian School and tied the game at four just before the end of the contest. In regular season … CONTINUED

Laura Pearl Roberts Smith

Laura Pearl Roberts Smith, 74, of Sparta, passed away April 24, 2009, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 14, 1934, in White County, to Cecil and Louann Shuster Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Smith; four brothers, Roy Lee Roberts, James Roberts, Andrew Roberts, Cecil Ray Roberts; sister, Opal Pollard; and two stepdaughters, Wanda Gilbert and Judith Bentley.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna Poling, of Sparta, Katherine Sue Atkins, of San Diego; sons, Lewis Knowles, of Sparta; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Roberts, of Quebeck; and sister, Ruby Testruth, of Waverly.

Warrior baseball shut out at Cookeville

Seth McDonald hauls in a pop fly in foul territory at Cookeville to record an out in the contest. The Warriors were, however, defeated by the Cavaliers by a score of 8-0.

The Warriors lost the second game of the District 7AAA series to Cookeville on Thursday allowing the Cavaliers to finish with the regular season sweep.
After falling 15-5 at home on Wednesday, the Warriors traveled to Cookeville Thursday and were shut out 8-0. The Cavs scored one run in the second inning, but added five in the third to pull away and never look back. Of their eight runs only three were earned due to six … CONTINUED

Laura Pearl Smith, 74, of Sparta, passed away April 24, 2009, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mock DUI impacts WCHS teens

A mock DUI was put on at WCHS on April 16; an in-depth recreation of an automobile accident involving alcohol. The mock DUI is held at WCHS each year on prom week, hoping to keep students away from alcohol and out from behind the wheel.
