Bobby Dewaine Lowery, 53, of Ashland City, Dec. 30, 2009, at Centennial Medical Center, in Nashville.
Mr. Lowery was born Dec. 2, 1956, in White County.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Lowery; grandson, Andrew Bennett Lowery; and his grandparents, John and Effie Lowery and Theo and Laura Clouse.
Mr. Lowery was an avid outdoorsman and photographer. He was operations manager for Western Express, in Nashville.

The Warriorettes picked up two wins in their opening round games of the Sonic Shootout in similar fashion.
In both their win over Daniel Boone on opening day and Sevier County in the semifinals, WCHS got off to a slow start, bounced back to build a commanding lead in the third quarter, but had to stave off late comebacks to hold on for the victories.

Tennie Geneva Hutson Simmons, 67, passed away Dec. 30, 2009, at NHC Healthcare of McMinnville.
Mrs. Simmons was born Nov. 22, 1942, in Sparta, to Marvin and Lular Mabe Hutson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth Hutson and Edward Hutson.
Survivors include her son, Ronnie Lynn, of Nashville; Teresa Walls and husband Darrell, of McMinnville, Shondra Williams and husband Timmy, of Sparta; five grandchildren, Thomas Walls, Brandon Walls, Jamie Williams, Ashton Williams, Lexie Williams; one great-granddaughter, Caydance Walls; two sisters, Lou Jones and husband Roy, of Sparta, and Mary Joines and husband Bobby, of Dowelltown.

Fire destroyed a home on Franks Ferry Road, in the southwestern portion of White County, on Dec. 26.
According to E-911 records, emergency personnel with Cassville and Central View volunteer fire departments, White County Emergency Medical Services and White County Sheriff Department were dispatched to the scene after a call was received from DeKalb County E-911, informing White County E-911 dispatchers of the fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene, at approximately 11 a.m., and found the structure fully involved in flames.

Partygoers will have one extra event to celebrate Dec. 31 when the rare lunar occurrence of a blue moon appears in the sky.
No, the moon will not change colors. The phrase dates back to the 1940s when the term “blue moon” was the reference for the second full moon in any month. According to the Farmers Almanac, the reference to the color “blue” in the expression reportedly came from times when ash from large forest fires or major volcanic eruptions propelled into the Earth’s atmosphere, thus causing the moon to take on a bluish tint.

A Doyle woman was sent to the hospital Dec. 23 after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 111.

Roy Sewell Gymnasium was the site of 16 basketball games during the course of Monday and Tuesday.
Four of those games involved the WCHS teams and are profiled in detail elsewhere in this sports section. The following is a short rundown of the other 14 games.

The White County High School Warrior basketball team bounced back from their opening round loss in the Sonic Shootout to Daniel Boone on Monday defeating Franklin County on Tuesday.
The opening round loss prevented the Warriors from being able to finish any higher than fifth place. They were scheduled to take on Gallatin (4-7) Wednesday at 3 p.m. for fifth place. The results of that were not available at press time.

Isibella Louise Cummins, 80, passed away Dec. 30, 2009, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Cummins was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Hickory Grove, S.C., to Robert Lester Bell and Addie Miller Bell.
She attended Faith Harvest Church of God, in Cookeville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Mrs. Cummins was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Fred Cummins; one daughter, Marie Cardwell; one granddaughter, Missy Sockwell; and two sisters, Ruth Wright and Hazel Walker.
