Ella Mae Reece

Ella Mae Reece, of Walling, passed away July 24, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Reece was born Feb. 27, in Walling, to Lester Bryan Sanders and Sallie Loucindy Clark Sanders.
She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her children and grandchildren reminisce about all the adventures and stories she told them. She was a member of Spring Hill The Baptist Church of Christ. She loved flowers and the beauty of their blooms. Now, she is blooming in God’s bouquet.
Mrs. Reece was preceded in death by her parents.

Davy Crockett Cookies

Davy Crockett Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
One-half teaspoon baking powder
One-half teaspoon salt
3 cups oats
1 (12 oz.) package chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans
Cream butter, sugars, eggs, and vanilla. Add flour, soda, baking power and salt and mix well. Stir in oats, chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls on to lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly before transferring to waxed paper.

$2,500 awarded to White County Humane Society

White County Humane Society has been named as one the recipients of an animal spay/neuter grant that is distributed by Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
White County received $2,500 from the grant, which is funded through the “Animal Friendly” license plate sales. These specialty plates cost $60, with $15 from the sale contributed to the fund.
According to Ken Givens, TDA commissioner, every dollar the agency receives goes directly to spay and neuter services.
A total of $96,000 was awarded to 48 different non-profit animal care and rescue organizations and government agencies. The grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $2,500. The total amounts, however, are less than previous years … CONTINUED


Authorities searching for stolen hot tub

Sparta Police are searching for the person, or persons, responsible for taking a hot tub that was on a trailer, parked at a business on East Bockman Way.
According to Chief Jeff Guth, the tub and trailer were last seen at 168 East Bockman Way, at approximately 8 p.m., on July 20.
Guth stated, when the owner went back to the location, at 6 p.m., on July 28, the items were missing.
The hot tub is described as a blue-colored, six-person Gulf Coast hot tub with 24 jets in a redwood cabinet.
The trailer is described as a black-colored 5-foot by 8-foot utility trailer with wire mesh floor … CONTINUED


Back-to-School Celebration set for Aug. 7

A Back-to-School Celebration will be held for all White County students on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at White County Fairgrounds Agricultural Complex Building. This event, sponsored by the White County Board of Education, will help ring in the 2010-2011 school year for White County students.
Organizers say the purpose of this event is to celebrate education and to encourage parent to be involved with their children’s learning.
Admission is free for all White County students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
As part of the Back-to-School Celebration, White County Schools will be offering several services for parents.
