John Leonard Redmon

In honor and remembrance of service to his country.

John Leonard Redmon, 79, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 22, 2010, at Erlanger Hospital, in Chattanooga.
Mr. Redmon was born March 16, 1931, in Keltonburg, to John and Aubra Adamson Redmon.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Sparta Lodge #99 and Al Menah Temple, in Nashville.
Mr. Redmon was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Annie.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Redmon, of Sparta; two daughter, Roxanne Redmon, of McMinnville, Sandra Carter and husband Jimmy, of Oregon; two sisters, Vella Mai Poston, Dean Ashley and husband Norwood, of … CONTINUED


Rebels spoil season opener for the Warriors

Delivering a hit. A trio of Warrior tacklers team up to stop a Franklin County runner on this play. The Rebels, however, rushed for 483 yards in the contest on the way to the 52-14 victory spoiling opening night for WCHS.

Rolling out. Warrior quarterback, Conor Sparkman, rolls away from Franklin County pressure and looks downfield for an open receiver. Sparkman threw for 222 yards and led the Warriors with 58 yards rushing in the loss to the Rebels.

Growing pains are something that everyone associated with Warrior football knew would be a part of the season.

WCMS drops opener to Avery Trace

The White County Middle School football team opened their season Tuesday at Warrior Stadium by hosting neighboring archrival, Avery Trace.
The Raiders turned a 6-0 halftime lead into a 22-0 advantage before the Warriors broke the ice with a late touchdown for the final of 22-8.
The Warriors were able to move the ball in the first half, but could not manage many offensive yards in the second half until the final series with the 85-yard touchdown run.

Fall Sports start full swing this week

All the preseason practices are over.
The regular season has officially arrived for all the fall sports teams at both White County High School and White County Middle School. In fact, action this week is plenty as all teams are in action, some of them multiple times.
While the high school football team started Friday night and golf has been underway for a while, the other high school sports teams have the okay from the TSSAA to begin regular season competition Monday.

Body is identified; 40-year-old Richmond Boruff

A body that was found Aug. 18 in an out-building, at Boruff Creekside Farm on Charlie Hickey Road, has officially been identified as well known Sparta businessman Richmond Boruff, according to White County Sheriff Oddie Shoupe.
Firefighters with Cherry Creek and BonDeCroft volunteer fire departments and a deputy with White County Sheriff Department were dispatched to the scene, at approximately 3:30 p.m., in response to a structure fire.
When the body was found, authorities immediately cordoned off the area around the shed, treating it as a crime scene.

In honor and remembrance of service to his country.

Lawrence Edwin Walling, 88, of Spencer, passed away Aug. 21, 2010, at River Park Hospital, in McMinnville.
Mr. Walling was born Jan. 8, 1922, in Palmer, to Joe S. and Sarah Barker Walling.
He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal in World War II.
Funeral service was 10 a.m., Aug. 23, 2010, at Spencer Funeral Home, with burial in Sietz Cemetery.
Spencer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


James Harvey Brown

James Harvey Brown, 90, passed away Aug. 19, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Brown was born Oct. 22, 1919, in White County, to George Thomas and Oma Dodson Brown.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had been a carpenter.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Elizabeth Clemons Brown; son, David Eugene Brown; daughter, Sherry Elaine Morgan; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Stacy Brown.
Survivors include his son, Sammy Brown, of Lavergne; sister, Maggie Mae Deathridge, of Ohio; eight grandchildren, Chris Brown and wife Dena, of Gallatin, Seidina Eubanks and husband Michael, of Lavergne; Kimmy Ferree, of Sparta, Kaz Morgan … CONTINUED

Warriors fall in season opener

The Warrior football team had a tough way to go in their season opener Friday night in Winchester.
Franlin County opened the game with 28 unanswered points and never looked back as they defeated WCHS 52-14.
For the most part, the Warriors did all their damage offensively through the air with senior quarterback, Conor Sparkman, passing for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns including a 42 yard completion to Jordan Armstrong and a 67 yard strike to Zach Hampshire.

Mary Ann Bagnall

Mary Ann Bagnall, 63, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 17, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bagnall was born Sept. 3, 1946, in New Jersey, to James and Faith Childs Edgar.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Aug. 20, 2010, at Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from noon until service time.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Richmond Boruff

William Richmond Boruff, 40, of Sparta, passed away August 18, 2010.
Mr. Boruff was born May 15, 1970, in Sparta, to William and Barbara Boruff.
He graduated from White County High School, in 1988. He was the owner/operator of Boruff’s Creekside Farm LLC. He was a very active member of the community, serving on numerous boards and volunteering for many athletic programs.
Mr. Boruff was preceded in death by his grandfather, Comer Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Dycus Boruff; children, Jenna Boruff and fiancé, Mark Herring, Chris Boruff, Whitney Randolph, River Boruff, Ocean Boruff; parents, Bill and Barbara Boruff; grandmother, Josephine Drouillard; aunt Donna Lee and husband … CONTINUED
