Warriorettes split first two games of Sonic Shootout

The White County High School Warriorettes opened the fifth annual Sonic Shootout with a decisive win, but then fell into the consolation bracket with a narrow loss.
WCHS rolled to the opening round win over Bledsoe County by a score of 58-27 during Thursday’s opening round, but then suffered a 65-60 setback in the semifinals to Harpeth Hall.

Warriors cruise to Sonic Shootout title game

The White County High School Warriors cruised into the finals of the 5th annual Sonic Shootout.
The Warriors opened tournament play with a 59-47 win over Franklin County (6-10) and then dominated Shelbyville in the semifinals 71-45. WCHS only trailed one time in their two first round games and that came in the first minute of the game against Shelbyville when the Golden Eagles took the 3-2 lead on a conventional three-point play.

Warriorettes fall to McMinn in consolation game

Sonic Shootout fourth place. After winning their first game in the tournament, the Warriorettes lost back to back games and finished fourth. They were defeated in the consolation game by McMinn County by a score of 65-58.

After falling into the consolation game, the Warriorettes found themselves matched up against a team, McMinn County, they had already beaten earlier this season.

Warriors finish runner-up in Sonic Shootout

Second place finish. The Warrior basketball team finished runner-up in the fifth annual Sonic Shootout. They were defeated by Oakland 49-37 in the title game.

The White County High School Warriors found themselves in the Sonic Shootout championship game for the fourth time in the last five years, but were not able to defend their title against a very talented Oakland Patriot team.

Sonic Shootout Day 2 Results

The schedule for the final day of the Sonic Shootout is set.
One of the White County High School teams played their way into the final while one had to settle for a spot in the third place contest.
The Warriors (10-4) advanced to the championship game with a 71-45 defeat of Shelbyville in Friday’s semifinal game.  Kane Young and Kordell Henderson led the way with 13 points each.
The Warriorettes fell into the consolation game with a 65-60 defeat at the hands of Harpeth Hall in Friday’s final game.  Allyson Quillen led the Warriorettes (11-3) with 14 points.

Sonic Shootout Day 1 Results

The first day of the 2012 Sonic Shootout is complete.
The Warriors and Warriorettes both advanced in the winner’s bracket with opening day victories.  The Warriorettes defeated Bledsoe County 58-27 as Loren Foster led the way with15 points.  They will now take on Harpeth Hall Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the tournament semifinals.
Harpeth Hall advanced with a 60-44 win over Franklin.
The Warriors also moved into the semifinals with a 59-47 win over Franklin County behind four double figure scorers led by the 17 points of A.J. Wilkerson.  The WCHS boys will take on Shelbyville, a 75-67 winner over Smith County, at 6 p.m. Friday.

Sonic Shootout tips off Thursday at WCHS

In the Smokies. The Warriorettes traveled to Sevierville last week to compete in the Winterfest Shootout and are pictured above in Gatlinburg. They went 2-1 in the tournament and finished runner-up to Alcoa. They will be back in action this week when they host their own tournament, the Sonic Shootout. The Warriorettes take on Bledsoe County Thursday at 6 p.m.

On the beach. The Warriors took time out from their busy schedule to pose for a picture on the beach at Hilton Head Island. The WCHS boys won just one of their three games in the tournament over the weekend. They will be back in action Thursday night


Drug and child abuse charges filed in meth lab incident

Sgt. Daniel Trivette of the White County Sheriff Department went to the home of Mark Rhea, 39, of Sparta to serve a violation of probation warrant, however, when officers arrived, they noticed a distinct smell that they recognized as methamphetamine and further drug charges have now been made.
According to Sgt. Trivette’s report, at approximately 9:13 p.m. on Dec. 14, he went to the Darkey Springs Road home, along with Deputies Nick Dunn and Andy Julian, to serve a violation of probation warrant that stems from previous charges of theft over $500 and promotion to manufacture methamphetamine.

Jail administrator aids in capture of wanted fugitive

On Dec. 11, a suspicious man in the foyer of the White County Justice Center set off an alarm for jail administrator Major Joe Taylor, who recognized him as a wanted fugitive and aided in the suspect’s apprehension.
According to Public Information Officer Detective Chris Isom, Major Taylor was in the foyer of the Justice Center when he noticed a man who appeared to be acting suspicious, wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head while accompanying someone into court.
The suspect’s suspicious behavior drew the attention of Major Taylor, who quickly recognized him as Jason Wayne Johnson, who had three warrants for his arrest for … CONTINUED

THP plans DUI enforcement for Christmas holiday

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be out in full force beginning at midnight on Dec. 21 through midnight on Dec. 25 to ensure that travelers safely reach their destinations by removing impaired drivers from the road and enforcing seat belt laws.
During last year’s Christmas holiday, nine people were killed on Tennessee roadways in six traffic crashes. According to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, 66 percent of those crashes involved alcohol, and half of those killed were not wearing seat belts. One pedestrian was also killed.
There were no fatalities in White County last year.

Warriorettes earn spot in title game with two wins

Laying it in. Bella Taylor had a solid tournament off the bench for the Warriorettes. The sophomore came up with some big plays in the two wins that helped jump start key runs during the games.

The White County High School Warriorette basketball team picked up wins in the opening two rounds of the Winterfest Shootout hosted by Sevier County High School earning a spot in the event’s second title game.
Both games saw WCHS push out to big leads only to see their opponents battle back, but the Warriorettes were able to hold them off for the win.
