Reightler missing since February 16

White County Sheriff Department is advising the community to be on the lookout for a woman who has been missing since Feb. 16, 2014.
According to Sheriff Oddie Shoupe, Kelly Sue Reightler has not been seen or heard from since she left her residence in the early morning hours of Feb. 16.
Reightler resides on North Star Road, in the Bon Air Mountain community. Authorities say Reightler’s family is concerned about her, especially since she left home without her needed medications.

Senior Diamond Warriors. The WCHS baseball team has six seniors, who are expected to provide solid leadership for the squad this spring. They are (l to r): Daniel Winnett, Dustin Cole, Jalon Foster, Jake Young, River Boruff and Blake Lynn. Cole, Foster and Young received district honors last season.

#1 hurler. Warrior junior pitcher, Ethan Roberts, will start the season as the #1 pitcher in the WCHS rotation that is expected to be a strength for the season. Roberts was first team All District last season and is receiving attention from Division I college programs.

Eaglettes win program’s first-ever region title

Region MVP. Lakelyn Bouldin, showed above going for the jump shot during the win over CSAS last Wednesday in the region tournament, was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Saturday’s sectionals bring Eaglette season to an end

Fan appreciation. The Van Buren County faithful give their Eaglettes a standing ovation at the conclusion of the sectional game Saturday night in Spencer. A standing room only crowd watched Jackson County defeat the Eaglettes 61-46. The Lady Blue Devils brought a historic Van Buren County season to a close with a 23-8 record. The Eaglettes return all but one player off this year’s team next season.

John David Rowland

John David Rowland, 50, passed away Feb. 25, 2014, in Heritage Medical Center, in Shelbyville.
Mr. Rowland was born Sept. 23, 1963, the son of John Riley Rowland and Mary Edwina Rowland, who had resided in White County.
He was preceded in death by his parents. .
Mr. Rowland is survived by his sister, Marilyn McCormick, of Sparta, and a nephew, Johnathan McCormick, of Oregon.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m., March 2, 2014, at
Doyle Church of the Nazarene, with a private burial. Pastor Tracey Curtis will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.

Dewayne “Mall Head” Randolph, 57, of Walling, passed away Feb. 26, 2014, at Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta.
Mr. Randolph was born Sept. 2, 1956, in White County, to James Oscar and Ruby Pearl Holman Randolph.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Davis Randolph, of Walling; daughters, Angel Randolph, of Walling, Renee Randolph, of Mississippi, Sheila Randolph, of Doyle; sons, Benny (Mavery), of Walling, Bobby Randolph, of Kentucky, J.R. Ronald Kevin Neely Jr., 27, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 24, 2014, in Bell Buckle.
Mr. Neely was born March 28, 1986, in Cookeville, the son of Ronald and Vera Clark Neely.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m., March 6, 2014, at Eaton Church of Christ.

Herbert Denton Flatt

Herbert Denton Flatt, 76, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 26, 2014, at his residence in Sparta.
Mr. Flatt was born Sept. 29, 1937, in Sparta, a son of Sim Flatt and Ida Mary Scott Flatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Flatt, of Sparta; son, Randy Denton Flatt, of Sparta; special grandson, Jason Flatt, of Cookeville; granddaughter, Rachel Flatt, of North Carolina; sisters, Reba Miller and husband Jimmy, of Sparta, Gladys Rose and husband Sterling, of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.
No service is announced at this time.

Samuel “Joe” Joseph Irwin

Former Cantonment, Fla., resident, Samuel Joseph “Joe” Irwin, 80, passed away Feb. 25, 2014 at his home in Sparta.
Mr. Irwin was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Atmore, Ala., to John Calvin and Lillie Hardy Irwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis.
He graduated from J.M. Tate High School, in 1952. He married Mary Joyce Smith, on Aug. 30, 1952, in Cottage Hill. He retired from St. Regis/Champion Paper Mill, in 1997.
Mr. Irwin was active in the community including membership of the First Baptist Church of Cantonment, a former Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department, a current member of Masonic Lodge … CONTINUED
