Information released on Highway 111 motorcycle crash

Details on the motorcycle crash on Aug. 21 at the intersection of Highway 111 and Fred Hill Road have been released by the Sparta Police Department.  According to a report by Patrolman David Grissom, the driver of the motorcycle was Christopher Dennis Richardson, age 39 of Sparta. He was airlifted to Erlanger where he reportedly remains in serious condition.  For complete information on the crash, see Thursday’s edition of The Expositor.

Governor makes appointments to state boards and commissions

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced Aug. 25, 2014, the appointments of 118 Tennesseans to 52 boards and commissions. Appointment terms are varied due to differing statutory requirements or term limits determined by specific qualifications. Appointments for surrounding counties include: Great War Commission: Michael Birdwell, of Cookeville; State Board of Education, Lillian Hartgrove, of Cookeville; Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities: Tecia Pryor, of Smithville; Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation: Anne Stamps, of Crossville.

White County Animal Shelter to hold Black/White Market

From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 4 at Compugeeks, the Friends of White County Animals and the White County Animal Shelter will be holding a Black/White Market.  The adoption event will show all the white and black dogs currently residing at the shelter.  On the Facebook event page, pictures of the available dogs and their information will be posted.

Sparta Drive-in to hold Classic Movie Weekend and car show

On Labor Day weekend, August 29 and 30, the Sparta Drive-in will be celebrating with classic movies.  On Friday, the drive-in will be showing Jurassic Park and Jaws.  On Saturday, the drive-in will be hosting the Sparta Good Time Cruiser Car Show and showing American Graffiti and Dirty Dancing.

THP announces Labor Day enforcement checkpoints

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting sobriety checkpoints across the state throughout the Labor Day weekend to ensure the roadways are safe for drivers. Van Buren County has been selected for a sobriety checkpoint on Friday morning. In the Upper Cumberland, sobriety and driver license checkpoints will also be conducted in Smith County, Picket County, Putnam County and Jackson County.

White County 4-H members compete in Outdoor Meat Cookery

Congratulations to Josh Templeton and Caz Bilbrey for making the top 10 in the 4-H Outdoor Meat Cookery competition held on Aug. 21, 2014, at Wilson County Fairgrounds. Both grilled chicken: Josh placed 8th in the Senior Division, and Caz placed 10th in the Junior Division. This year, 4-H Outdoor Meat Cookery was filmed as part of a show called “Light My Fire.” The show highlights James Peisker and Chris Carter, owners of Porter Road Butcher Shop, in Nashville. Sheriff receives veterans award

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recently presented Sheriff Oddie Shoupe with an award for his support of his employees who are currently serving their country in the National Guard or Reserve.

Along with several veterans who have served in the military in the past, White County Sheriff Department currently employs three National Guardsmen and Reservists.

Go Pink Program comes to YMCA

Central Church of Christ to hold Stronger Marriage Workshop

Central Church of Christ will be holding a Stronger Marriage Workshop.  Those attending do not need to be members of Central Church of Christ.  The workshop will take place Friday, October 3 from 6:45 p.m.–9:00 p.m. and on  Saturday, October 4 from 8:45 a.m.–12 p.m at Central Church of Christ.  Free childcare is available.   Those attending must preregister with an email to stating the name(s) of those attending, and if one or both spouses will be attending.  For further information, call Central Church of Christ at 836-2874.
