Warriors get another tune-up against Macon Co.

Changing directions.  Josh Rowan cuts back in front of a Macon County defender for a big gain in Tuesday’s scrimmage.  WCHS will play in a jamboree Friday at Upperman High School.

The Warrior football team hosted Macon County Tuesday in what is their final full scrimmage of the preseason.

WCHS will travel to Upperman Friday for the jamboree, which is basically a dress rehearsal for the real thing, which is Friday, August 22nd, when York Institute comes to town for the season opener.

Virginia Kozak

Virginia Kozak, 92, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 10, 2014, at Signature Healthcare-Putnam, in Algood.

She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, to Anthony English and Martha Bochatyn English.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Aug. 15, 2014, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Aug. 15, at the funeral home.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Officer family reunion

Carl Edward Hodge

Carl Edward Hodge, 67, of Murfreesboro, formerly of Sparta, passed away Aug. 10, 2014, at Alive Hospice St. Thomas.

Mr. Hodge was born May 5, 1947, in White County, to William F. Hodge and Ida Pearl Bohannon Hodge.

Survivors include his three sisters, Anna Jones and husband Steve, Doris Prater and husband Ronnie, Virginia Presley, all of Sparta, and brother, William Eugene Hodge and wife Gail, of Chattanooga.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Aug. 14, 2014, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Shockley Cemetery, in Van Buren County. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Aug. 13, at the funeral home.

Five EMS employees complete paramedic program

Five employees of White County Emergency Medical Services have completed the paramedic program at Tennessee Tech. The EMT-IVs completed 425 classroom hours and 600 clinical hours to receive their certificates, which is required to obtain a state paramedic license. Billy Price, EMS director, says the five future paramedics, who he lists as Houston Austin, Danny Webb, Ashley Thompson, Jimmy Savage and Ben Deweese, attended class twice per week for 14 months. They are now awaiting state approval for their paramedic licenses.

Marcus England named E-911 Interim Assistant Director

At the August 11 meeting of the White County Emergency Communications Board, eight-year E-911 employee and long-time emergency services veteran Marcus England was named Interim Assistant Director of E-911, as the previous assistant resigned citing personal reasons.

Senior Day at the fair
