TWRA to host first Becoming an Outdoors-Woman ATV Workshop

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will host its first Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) All-terrain Vehicle (ATV) Workshop Oct. 3-5 on the Sundquist unit at the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area. Participants will arrive on Friday evening from 4-6 p.m. with dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m. On Saturday following breakfast, an ATV Orientation Safety Course will be conducted. Following completion of the session, participants will begin trail riding and lunch will be held at the elk-viewing tower. Trail riding will continue in the afternoon. Space is limited for the workshop. The cost is $150, which includes lodging in cabin for two nights, meals, WMA permit, ATV use and required safety … CONTINUED

The White County High School football team hosted neighboring DeKalb County last Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

The game was a thriller as DeKalb County scored with 10 seconds remaining to escape with the 27-22 win over the Warriors.  WCHS had scored to take the lead on a fluke sequence with 2:01 remaining.  DeKalb County intercepted a Warrior pass, but Jake Shockey knocked the ball loose from the defender.  Randin Seibers picked up the loose ball near midfield and took it all the way to the end zone.  Seth Davis added the two-point conversion run after an offsides penalty on the Tigers.  However, WCHS left too much time … CONTINUED

Six WCHS golfers qualify for region

Six WCHS golfers will be competing in the region next week.

The entire girls’ team led by Shelby Johnson’s third place individual finish qualifed, which means that Johnson, Kate Ferguson and Mackenzie Burton will all advance as a team.

The boys’ had three individuals qualify.  Haden Welch, Blake Gongaware and Tommy Sparkman finished amongst the top five that did not qualify as members of the top three teams.

Johnson named District 6AAA POY

Shelby Johnson, a senior golfer at WCHS, was a unanimous selection as the District 6AAA girls’ Player of the Year.

Haden Welch was named to the first team on the boys’ side.  WCHS also had four golfers named to the All Freshman team.  They are Mackenzie Burton, Blake Gongaware, Tanner Bryant and Taylor Stewart.

Volleyball finishes runner-up in tourney

The Warriorette volleyball team finished second in the Coffee County Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

They continued their hot streak by defeating Upperman Monday (2-0) in non league action.

WCHS travels to Cookeville Tuesday for a District 6AAA match-up.

Homecoming Week at WCHS

Homecoming week is in full swing at White County High School this week and the homecoming court is very excited.

On Monday, there were plenty of teachers and students walking around in their pajamas for PJ day.  Tuesday is favorite team day.

Susan Elizabeth Jones

Susan Elizabeth Jones, 61, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 13, 2014, at her residence.

Ms. Jones was born March 19, 1953, in Houston, Texas, to Barnett Collier and Hester Davidson Collier.

No services are announced at this time.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
