Larry “Bubba” Johnson benefit continues

Benefit for Larry “Bubba” Johnson kicks off this morning

This morning at 10 a.m. at the White County School Bus Garage, friends and coworkers came together to raise money for Johnson, who will soon undergo numerous surgeries.  Today at the bus garage, a chili lunch will be held to help Johnson cover the cost of his surgeries.  The lunch is $5, and donations will also be accepted.  This event will last until 2 p.m.  Call (931) 739-2011 for more information.


Sparta Police implement domestic violence program

Sparta Police Department along with Putnam and Cumberland County law enforcement agencies will begin training of law enforcement officers and domestic violence service providers in December to implement the Maryland Model Lethality Assessment Program.

The LAP consists of 11 questions a police officer will ask a victim of domestic violence. If the answers provided indicate a high level of danger, the officer will call a domestic violence hotline provided by Genesis House or Avalon Center, and the victim will be able to receive services from the domestic violence service provider or the Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center.

Lew Betterton benefit to be held on Saturday

Lew Betterton,  of Lew’s alignment and 20-year former chief of Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department, is in need of the community’s help. His health issues began with a dislocated shoulder, then a broken leg, and a battle with prostate cancer.  A benefit will be Nov. 15, at Cherry Creek Fire Department, 124 Montgomery Rd. A silent auction will be held 1-3 p.m.  A pig roast at 3 p.m. There will also be chicken, along with side items. To donate items  call (931) 260-7934.

 


Firefighters responding to Lee Hollow structure fire

A countywide page for firefighters has been made for a reported structure fire at what is possibly an abandoned building on Lee Hollow Road, near the Putnam County line. No further information has been released at this time.

Benefit for Larry “Bubba” Johnson

Now is the time to help out a great man who has always been ready and willing to help out others. There will be a chili lunch to benefit Larry “Bubba” Johnson, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 12, 2014, at the White County School Bus Garage, 763 Millers Point Rd. The cost is $5. Donations will also be accepted. Bubba is facing numerous surgeries, and this event will help defray those costs. This will be take-out only. Call (931) 739-2011 for more information.
