The White County Middle School 8th grade Warriors capped off a perfect Central Tennessee Conference season with a 36-33 win over Harris Middle School in the championship game on Saturday in Manchester.
The Warriors, who went undefeated in the regular season, had to hold off the team from Shelbyville for the 36-33 win.

Next up for the Warriors is the TNT state tournament. They will play in Springfield Friday against Knox Doss.

The Sparta-White County Rescue Squad’s Fourth Annual Father/Daughter Dance has been set for 6-9 p.m., March 7, 2015. Tickets go on sale 5-8 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Rescue Squad building, 320 E. Bockman Way, across from the post office. Tickets are $12.50 per person.

Upper Cumberland Development District/Area Agency on Aging and Disability would like to begin holding a monthly caregiver support group meeting in this area. The meetings would be for anyone caring for another individual of any age that could benefit from some support and counseling. Are you turning 65 soon and confused about Medicare benefits and choices? The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is conducting two free “Welcome to Medicare” classes at the White County Library, in Sparta, 10 a.m.-noon, and 5:30-7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The classes will consist of training on Parts A, B, C and D, as well as Medigap policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud. SHIP is a federally funded program administered through the Area Agency on Aging & Disability. Please call SHIP at 1-877-801- 0044 to reserve a seat.

Teresa Roberts has been promoted to chief nursing officer for Highlands Medical Center, in Sparta, according to Bill Little, chief executive officer. Roberts began her career at Highlands Medical Center, in 2001, as the Director of Performance Improvement / Patient Safety Officer, with additional responsibilities including education, risk management, infection control, employee health and accreditation preparedness. She was promoted to Chief Quality Officer, in January 2004, and became the Interim Chief Nursing Officer, in May 2014. Roberts earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at East Tennessee State University and began her nursing career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
