Lela Pearl Scott Wood

Lela Pearl Scott Wood, 90, of Walling, passed away Aug. 9, 2015, at NHC Healthcare of McMinnville, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Wood was born June 4, 1925, in White County, the daughter of Natty Scott and Nancy Ellen Bowdoin Scott.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jessie Thurman Wood; brothers, Willie Scott, Roy Scott, Cordell Scott, Estell Ray Scott, Earl Scott; and sisters, Irene Smith and Maggie Ovalee Wiser.

Survivors include her children; Richard Wood and wife Joanna, of Cookeville, Dennis Wood and wife Peggy, of Walling, Loyd Wood and wife Anita, of Rock Island, Lois Colwell, of McMinnville, Marlene Pelham and husband Tim, … CONTINUED

Christopher “Chris” Eugene Rice

Christopher “Chris” Eugene Rice, 53 of Sparta, passed away Aug. 5, 2015, at his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1962, in Sparta, to Harold Eugene Rice and Nancy Sue Thompson Vaughn.

Survivors include his mother, Nancy Vaughn and husband Jewell, of McMinnville; father, Harold Rice and wife Ann, of  Sparta; brother, Todd Rice and wife Brigette, of Sparta; niece, Alyssa Rice Masters and husband Aaron; nephew, Bronson Rice; great-niece, Lynnleigh Masters; great-nephew, Parker Masters; stepbrothers, Tim Vaughn, Sam Richardson; stepsisters, Mechelle Southern, Shelia Dell; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Carl MeadowsCarl LaWayne “Wayne” Meadows, 54, passed peacefully in his sleep, on July 31, 2015.

He was born July 30, 1961.

Wayne was known for his sense of humor and his ability to get along with everyone he met. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and didn’t stray from this. He loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He loved baseball, cooking for others, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family and friends.

Diana BlessingDiana Blessing, 67, of Walling, passed away Aug. 6, 2015, in Nashville.

Born June 25, 1948, in Cookeville, she was the daughter of John Johnson and Willene Trobaugh Johnson.

Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Al-Halawani, of Walling; grandson, Jamal Al-Halawani, of Walling; sister, Thetta Dunn, of Sparta; uncle, Larry Trobaugh and wife Betty Jo, of Kentucky; niece, Connie Tatrow, of Nashville; nephew, Brian Dunn, of Smithville; and many nieces and cousins.

NARFE meeting

NARFENational Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1956, will have its regular monthly meeting, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Shoney’s Restaurant, on S. Jefferson Ave., in Cookeville. The meal begins at 6 p.m., with the meeting at 6:45 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. Donald Grisham, of Upper Cumberland Health Department.
