Ethan Cole Rose

Ethan Cole Rose, infant son of Jenna Davidson and Jason Rose, was born and passed away October 20, 2015 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Ethan is preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank E. Davidson, and grandmother Roberta Austin.

Survivors include his siblings, Courtney Pollard, Ema-Lee Hollingsworth, Cameron Davidson, Caleb Davidson, Lindsey Rose, Rachel Rose, and grandparents, Thelma Ruiz and husband Carlos and Donnie Rose and wife Sherry.

The family will have a private service at a later date.


Ceremony of Bestowal of Military Service Awards

During 119th United Daughters of the Confederacy Tennessee Division Convention held at the Inn at Opryland, in Nashville, the Ceremony of Bestowal of Military Service Awards was held.

The World War II Cross of Military Service was presented posthumously to Pvt. First Class Perry H. Windle, U.S. Army, on the service of his grandfather, Pvt. William H. Goggin, Co. B. 13th (Gore’s) TN Cavalry CSA. Accepting the award was his grandson John Mark Windle.

TN Arts Commission now accepting applications for FY17 annual grants

Tennessee Arts Commission is accepting applications for fiscal year 2017 annual grants through January 2016 for projects and activities that occur between July 1, 2016 and June 17, 2017. Competitive grant awards are announced in July 2016 after extensive paneled reviews. Nonprofit organizations, governmental organizations, professional individual artists, arts administrators and educators are eligible.

Annual Grants provide funds for: a variety of arts education projects, such as professional development for teachers, arts education in communities and programming for children in grades PK-12; operating support for well-established arts organizations; and project support in urban and rural counties.I

Free diabetes education class

Payless Family Pharmacy will be hosting a free diabetes education class at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at the pharmacy’s Diabetes Education Center. This month’s topic will be “You’ve Been Diagnosed with Diabetes, Now What?!” They will share recipes, taste diabetic-friendly foods, play Bingo and learn more about diabetes. The free class is open to anyone with diabetes, their family members, or anyone wishing to learn more about diabetes. The class will begin with a game of Bingo and last approximately one hour. If anyone should have any questions, call Payless at (931) 836-3398 or the Diabetes Center at (931) 837-8427.


Little Free Library at BonDeCroft

The Little Free Library at BonDeCroft Elementary School was dedicated Oct. 20, 2015. Principal Sarah Cope, reading specialist Jackie Howard and several students helped place the first books. White County Library extends its thanks to BonDeCroft sponsors John and Doris Dawson for funding this Little Free Library.

Donnie Bohannon, 56, of Crossville, passed away Oct. 19, 2015, at Cumberland Medical Center, in Crossville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Jakeup Dalton Choate

Jakeup Dalton Choate, 24, of Sparta, entered into the arms of Jesus, on Oct. 16, 2015.

Born Aug. 13, 1991, in Smithville, he was the son of Dina Baker and Terry Choate.

Jakeup loved to spend time at church. Some of his favorite hobbies included motorcycles, four-wheelers, race cars, car shows, gaming, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jake Baker, who had resided in Sparta.

Imogene “Jean” Dempsey Layne Durham, 91, of Whitwell, passed away

peacefully at her home, on Oct. 19, 2015.

She was the wife of the late Seth Layne, Art Sheridan, and Leonard Durham.

She was a member of the Whitwell First Baptist Church. She will be remembered by the members as a smile and “I love you more.” She was a coal miner’s daughter of the late Hubert and Jessie Dempsey.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Corareen Dempsey, Ailene “Runt” Pickett, and a brother, Bobby Dempsey.

Virginia Rhea Bumbalough Davison

Virginia Rhea Bumbalough Davison, 73, of Sparta, passed Oct. 19, 2015, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.

Mrs. Davison was born Dec. 13, 1941, in White County, to Verd Bumbalough and Eula Brewington Bumbalough.

She was retired from Red Kap, enjoyed family reunions and was known as a wonderful cook.

Mrs. Davison was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alice Rozelle Jernigan.
