Trick-or-Treat at NHC Healthcare

On Halloween night, Oct. 31, NHC Healthcare of Sparta, at 34 Gracey St., will be having trick-or-treating, 4-6 p.m., or until the candy runs out. This is a big event. It is like trick-or-treating at 30 houses in one stop. Nicki Basham, of NHC, says the residents enjoy seeing the children dressed up in their costumes. Children of all ages are welcome. More than 450 trick-or-treaters visited NHC last Halloween.

Pecor facing drug charges after Cookeville arrest

After an arrest in Cookeville, allegedly for attempting to pass counterfeit bills, a Sparta man is now facing additional charges, as officers claim drugs were found in his residence.

According to a press release by White County Sheriff Department, David Allen Pecor, age 46 of Sparta, was arrested in Cookeville after reportedly attempting to pass counterfeit bills.

Cookeville Police transported him to the Putnam County Jail and charged him with criminal simulation.

According to Sheriff Oddie Shoupe, officers also found methamphetamine in his possession, and further investigating led officers to believe that Pecor was involved in selling methamphetamine.

The investigation was handled by Putnam County Sheriff Department, Tennessee … CONTINUED


Tacy Lynn Clouse Hendrixson

Tacy Lynn Hendrixson, 31, of Smithville, passed away Oct. 28, 2015, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

She was a homemaker and attended the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Nelson Hendrixson, of Smithville; five children, Caitlyn Clouse, Megan Hendrixson, Krissy Hendrixson, Emily Hendrixson, Tyler Woody; mother, Sherry Rankhorn, of McMinnville; father, Rex (Renee) Clouse, of Sparta; godmother, Lori Driver, of Smithville; sister, Kira Clouse, of McMinnville; maternal grandmother, Jan Grissom, of McMinnville; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Oct. 30, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, with burial in Clouse Family Cemetery, in White County. Bro. V L Baker and … CONTINUED


Joyce Irene England Raper

Joyce Irene England Raper, 83, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 28, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Raper was born Dec. 1, 1931.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Raper; son, William Calvin Raper and wife Janice; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Nov. 2, 2015, at Thurman Funeral Home, with burial in Skurlock Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:30-8 p.m., Nov. 1, at the funeral home.

Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Lenard Ray “L.R.” West

Lenard Ray “L.R.” West, 60, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 29, 2015, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Oct. 31, 2015, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Crest Lawn Cemetery, in Cookeville. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Oct. 30, and after 11 a.m., Oct. 31, at the funeral home.

Don’t forget smoke alarm batteries when you ‘fall back’ this weekend

Get an extra hour of sleep this weekend when you “fall back” for daylight saving time, but keep your peace of mind all year long by changing the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Tennesseans should turn their clocks backward one hour on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 at 2 a.m.

To help ensure the safety of you and your loved ones, it is recommended that you replace the batteries regularly in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Twice a year is recommended. A house on Bockman Way, located directly across the street from Betty’s Beauty Salon, has been demolished today. Proceed with caution while driving through this stretch of roadway, as crews are conducting cleanup.
