Juanita Sandra “Sandy” Tracy

Juanita Sandra “Sandy” Tracy (nee McIntire) died unexpectedly at her home on Aug. 26, 2016, in Sparta, Tennessee.

Mrs. Tracy was born Feb. 5, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois. She was the daughter of Earl Daniel McIntire and Elizabeth May Jones McIntire and the eldest of their three children.

She graduated from Princeville (Illinois) High School, in 1966, and married her high school sweetheart, Walter Thomas “Tom” Tracy, on June 18, 1966, in Princeville, Illinois. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage together. Obituary flagCarl Allen Cude, 71, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 28, 2016, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mr. Cude was born April 2, 1945, in Jackson, Tennessee, Carl Cude and Margery Cady Cude.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then went on to earn a master’s degree from Auburn University. He retired from Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency after a 30-plus-year career. He also taught wildlife law at Tennessee Tech for a number of years. In addition to his love and devotion for his country and state, he was a devoted husband and father and a member of Bear Cove Baptist Church.

John H. Randolph

John H. Randolph, 80, of Sparta, departed this life at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, on Aug. 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Mr. Randolph was born July 18, 1936, in Putnam County, to Earnest Randolph and Willie Allison Randolph.

He was married to Dorothy D. Holman, on June 15, 1957.

Before his retirement, in 2001, he was a commercial spray painter for 38 years. After his retirement, Mr. Randolph was an avid gardener and rabbit hunter. Everette Broom

Obituary flagEverette Broom, 83, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 27, 2016, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Mr. Broom was born Nov. 11, 1932, in the Stringtown community, of White County, to Norval Broom and Nota Johnson Broom.

He retired from Fleetguard after 27 years and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Broom was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teresa Everlene Broom Selby; six brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Ieda Dodson Broom, of Sparta; son-in-law, Terry Selby, of Sparta; and twin grandsons, Trent Selby, Tyler (Amanda) Selby, all of Sparta.

J.D. Vaughn

James Daniel “J.D.” Vaughn, 83, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 29, 2016, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mr. Vaughn was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Buffalo Valley, to James Marsh Vaughn and Vinnie Evelyn Maynard Vaughn.

He was a retired line mechanic at Wagner. He was a basketball standout at White County High School, earning the name “Eagle Eye” from his teammates and fans. He was a member of Findlay Methodist Church where he served many years as song leader. Bird hunting was his passion, and he served his community for 12 years as a school board member for White County Board of Education.

Kimberly Robin Ann Culver

Kimberly Robin Ann Culver, 49, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 26, 2016, at her residence.

Ms. Culver was born Oct. 3, 1966, in Alma, Michigan, to Larry Gordon Culver Sr. and Gladys Lucille Myers Culver.

She was a former seamstress.

Ms. Culver was preceded in death by her mother and a son, Nicolas David Culver.

Survivors include her daughter, Loretta Carrara and husband Keith; son, Shaun Culver and girlfriend Carrol Pittman; father, Larry Culver Sr.; brothers, Larry (Tammy) Culver, Jr., David (Chris) Culver, Mike (Renee) Culver; and boyfriend, Greg Matheney.

Cassville Elementary Playground ribbon cutting

Cassville Elementary School held a ribbon cutting ceremony today for their new massive playground, paid for by a $85,000 grant from Lowe’s.

 

Dr. Larry Thompson welcomed representatives from Lowe’s who helped cut the ribbon.

Also present was Mountain Sno, who served sweet treats to the students before they finally got to play on their new playground.

Carl Allen Cude, 71, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 28, 2016, at the Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mr. Cude was born April 2, 1945.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m., Aug. 30, 2016, at Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with honors by the TWRA Honor Guard will be 10 a.m., Aug. 31, at Old Bon Air Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 4 p.m., Aug. 30, at the funeral home.


Roosevelt closed from Spring to Allen

In preparation for the road widening on Roosevelt Drive, the road is closed from Allen Drive to Spring Street as the Sparta Water Department begins moving water lines.
