White County man arrested for solicitation of a minor

After gathering information and conducting an investigation, a White County man has been arrested for solicitation of a minor and the District Attorney General’s Office is seeking the community’s help.

The 13th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office issued a press release today, August 5. According to the press release, 40-year-old, Jeremy Allen Hale of White County, formerly of Cumberland County, was arrested on August 4 and charged will soliciting a minor to engage in sexual activity.

The warrant reportedly alleges that Hale utilized Internet services to “intentionally command, request or persuade a person who he knew, or should have known was less than eighteen (18) years of … CONTINUED

Newly renovated Jere Whitson Building open for business

One of Tennessee Tech’s oldest and most historic buildings is open again for business. The Jere Whitson Building, which originally housed the university library, has been transformed into a campus visitor and welcome center.

With more than 27,000 square feet of usable space, the building is now home to the offices of admissions, financial aid, advisement, academic services, records and registration and military and veteran affairs.

Consolidation of these offices into one space makes it much easier on students who need assistance, and provides important navigation help for incoming students and their families.

Smith is new lay preacher at Blue Spring Presbyterian Church and at Sparta First Presbyterian

Two of local Presbyterian churches are welcoming a new preacher and pastor. Andrew Smith, a member and elder at First Presbyterian Cookeville, has been called to be the lay pastor at Blue Spring Presbyterian Church and at Sparta First Presbyterian, both part of the White County Parish.

Smith received his Master of Theological Studies (MTS) Degree in 2015 from Vanderbilt University Divinity School, and in addition to being a new pastor in White County, he also teaches courses in writing, literature, and religious studies at Tennessee Tech.
