Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Wenda’s Warriors will be hosting a Relay For Life fish fry, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018, at The Splash, on Mayberry Street (formerly known as Wet Willie’s). You have the choice of either a fish plate or a fish sandwich. Proceeds will go to American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, which helps fund research and provide life-saving drugs.

Patricia Anne Bradley, 76, passed away June 4, 2017, under Hospice Care, in La Vernia, Texas.

She was born Aug. 3, 1940, to Arthur Burns and Smithie Louise Burns in Bolivar, Tennessee.

She was a loving and loyal wife, mother, and Nana. She was well known for playing golf, in the Lubbock, Texas, area, where she lived and had numerous loyal friends. She served in a leadership capacity for the Women’s West Texas Golf Association and won many amateur golf tournaments over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fredrick Bradley, and her daughter, Julie Anne Bradley.

Knights of Columbus hosts Fishing Rodeo for Pacesetters

Knights of Columbus Council 14902, of Sparta, hosted the fourth annual Fishing Rodeo for Pacesetters of White County, on May 19, 2018, with 37 participants from the clients, families, and staff of Pacesetters, and 11 Knights plus their families. Knights provided the baiting of the hooks, casting out, and reeling in the fish at Lake Paula. The meal included hamburgers and hot dogs, with potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, and watermelon. Each member of Pacesetters received fishing gear and assistance in fishing in the local lake. They also received a “Knights of Columbus Certificate of Completion” for attendance at the event. Daughters of Confederacy visit historical Columbia house

Elm Springs is a two-story, brick house built in 1837, in Greek Revival style, and located just outside Columbia, Tennessee. The house was built by brothers James and Nathaniel Dick, wealthy New Orleans cotton merchants, as a gift for their sister Sarah Todd. Sarah and her husband, Christopher Todd, lived in Elm Springs for the rest of their lives. After their deaths, the property went to their daughter, Susan Todd. She was the wife of Abraham M. Looney, a prominent attorney in Maury County and a Tennessee state senator.

Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital is Chamber Member of the Month

St. Thomas Highlands Hospital is the Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce’s member of the month. Receiving the plaque is Richard Tumlin, acting director. Saint Thomas Highlands is owned by Ascension, the largest non-profit healthcare system in the United States and the largest Catholic healthcare system in the world. Ascension’s mission statement reads “Dedicated to spiritually-centered, holistic care that sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities.”

Fall Creek Falls State Park pool officially opens today

The Olympic-sized pool at Fall Creek Falls State Park opens for the 2018 season, on Saturday, May 26. A children’s wading pool, modern bathhouses and a snack bar are available. Lifeguards are on duty and the pool is ADA compliant. The pool is open seven days a week, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. On Fridays, the pool is open until 8 p.m. The pool closes for the season on Sept. 4. Admission is $5 per person ages 4 and older, and $2.50 per person for inn, cabin and camping guests. Komen Central Tennessee launches BigWig Campaign on June 1

The Komen BigWig Campaign will launch June 1 in the Komen Central Tennessee affiliate. Local celebrities, business owners, Chamber officials, and corporate community leaders have volunteered to don the Big Pink Wig for Komen.   This social media campaign will continue till the end of June. All BigWigs have set goals to help us end breast cancer forever.

Beth Ann Swallows named Motlow Sparta teaching site coordinator

Beth Ann Swallows has been named new site coordinator for the Motlow State Community College Sparta teaching Site. Swallows is a Sparta native and graduated from White County High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech University in English-Journalism and served five years in administration at Tennessee Tech before choosing to stay home with her three children. In 2016, she joined the Freshman Academic Success Team (FAST) and began working part-time at the Sparta site. She is married to Grant Swallows and enjoys spending time with her family and serving in worship and children’s ministries at her church.
