Learning the dreaded “S” word

At a whopping 3 days old, I was at the Union Hill drag strip, in Nashville, as my dad and uncle raced their 1968 Nova and 1969 Camaro.  It’s hard to express the emotion I have toward those cars.  I know, I shouldn’t get that attached to inanimate objects. I know, it’s weird that I can just see a royal blue ’69 Camaro, and my eyes get misty.  I know, my attraction to the sound of a revving and unmuffled 454 Chevy big block borders on being an unhealthy obsession.   I was heartbroken as a 12-year-old testosterone-driven boy when my family sold both cars. Linda J. Steward

Linda J. Steward, 75, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 28, 2019, at TriStar Summit Medical Center, in Hermitage.

Mrs. Steward was born Nov. 10, 1943, in Livingston. She was the daughter of W.H Qualls and Willie Qualls Crabtree.

She enjoyed her family and friends.

Mrs. Steward was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Tonia Holman.

Survivors include a daughter, Ramona Hunter (James), of Quebeck; son, Dewayne Steward (Janet), of Madison, North Carolina; grandsons, Trent Holman (Faith), of Sparta, Austin Holman, of Cookeville; granddaughters, Tiara Evans, of Sparta, Krista Keen, of Sparta; brothers, Billy Qualls (Dora Mae), of Sparta, Thomas Qualls, of Sparta; and several great-grandchildren, … CONTINUED
