Eighth grade Warriorettes continue to win in post-season play

The eighth grade Warriorettes advanced to the region sectional tournament with a 41-30 win over Coffee County.

Rylee Savage led in scoring with 15 points.  Celeste Reed added 11 point, and Pyper Price scored nine points.

On Jan. 28, they beat Rock Spring 46-34.  They will play Blackman, on Jan. 30.

Stats were not available at press time for the Rock Spring game.


Warriors win big over Stone Memorial in battle for first place

The Stone Memorial Panthers came into Sparta, on Jan. 28, to attempt to beat the Warriors and take first place standing in the district.  Both teams were undefeated in district play.

The Warriors took an early three-point lead after one quarter of play. The score after one was 19-16.  The Warrior defense slowed down the Panthers in the second quarter and held them to only seven points and extended the lead at halftime.

The Warriors continued to outscore Stone in every period to take the win by a final of 69-45.

Black History Month event

White County Black History Committee announces its annual Black History Month exhibit and celebration, which will begin at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at Sparta Civic Center. There will be an exhibition of historical photos, distinguished speakers, and food.

“Do everything you can,” said Seth Anderson, following his presentation to the White County Board of Commissioners, on Jan. 27, 2020, about a resolution that would declare White County a Second Amendment sanctuary county. “A lot of people say stuff and post stuff on Facebook, but when you actually show up to meetings, help with resolutions, and take action, that is really what makes a difference.”
