Jasper Ronald “Ron” Savage, of Beech Grove, a native of White County, passed away Jan. 14, 2020, at Horizon Health and Rehab Center, in Manchester.
Mr. Savage was born May 3, 1938, in White County, to Jasper Savage and Gertrude Smith Savage.
He worked at various places until he was married, in 1957, and then began a 44-year career at McQuiddy Printing Company, in Donelson. Mr. Savage retired, in 1991, and moved to Smyrna and then on to Lakewood Park where he joined Lakewood Baptist Church and soon served as a deacon.
Mr. Savage served his country in the National Guard and enjoyed traveling, playing guitar, and singing.… CONTINUED

Charles Foster Rouse, 87, passed away Jan. 12, 2020, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mr. Rouse was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Springfield, to Nancy Lee Hill and Jessie Lee Rouse, also a special grandmother Ozella Mills and grandfather Edna Mills.
Mr. Rouse attended Wallace-Smith Elementary School, in Sparta, first through eighth grades. He was transferred by bus to Darwin High School, in Cookeville, 1950-1952.
In 1952, Mr. Rouse joined the U.S. Navy. He trained in San Diego, California, for four years. He was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, in 1956. Norfolk was his home port, 1956-1967. He was in and out to sea for training, stationed on … CONTINUED

Bobbie Jean Cope Davis departed from this life in the evening of Dec. 19, 2019, at the age of 87 with loved ones by her side.
A native to Sparta, Jean met the love of her life, Frank, and together they raised one beloved son, Carl, with the strong ethics that have shaped the entire family since.
Picking up the names “Granny” and “Ole G” as grandchildren and a great-grandchild blessed her life, she always made sure to live up to the legend, her house being filled with the best treats and most wonderous adventures, leaving stories to tell for years to come.

Kristie Roberts, 47, passed from this life, on Dec. 28, 2020, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta.
Kristie was born March 6, 1972, in Cookeville, to Laura Carrick Roberts and John Albert Roberts.
She graduated from White County High School. Kristie had an outgoing personality and was loved by family and friends. Kristie also had an active curiosity that she loved to share. She especially had an ear for the streets to keep all informed.
Kristie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert Roberts Gertie Brown Paige Roberts, Dave Eugene Carrick and Laura Jean Worthington Carrick, and an uncle, Franklin Dwitt Roberts.

Burtchie Bumbalough, 71, of Byrdstown, Tennessee, formerly of Jay County, Indiana, passed away on Jan. 13, 2020, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bumbalough was born Jan. 21, 1948, in Monterey, Tennessee, but spent most of his life in Jay County, Indiana.
He served in the U.S. Army, in 1965. He went on to serve in the Navy, 1965-1972.
Mr. Bumbalough gave to all of his family and wanted everybody to celebrate life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Audie Lee Bumbalough and Reba Lee Foster Bumbalough, and brothers, Perry Dean Bumbalough and O’dell Bumbalough.

Wesley Harold Johnson, 92, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 17, 2020, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Mr. Johnson was born May 1, 1927, in the Bon Air community, of White County, to Riley Magnus Johnson and Phronie Belle Sapp Johnson.
He had a work career that took him inside most White County homes, most notably as a milkman, delivering milk for Irwin Dairy, which eventually became Southern Belle, and then he retired as a Sears repairman.
When Mr. Johnson was not working, he could be found in the woods or around a body of water as he was an avid hunter and fisherman and a founding member … CONTINUED

Robert Dewey Presley, better known as Bob, 75, passed away Jan. 16, 2020, at his residence, in Sparta.
Mr. Presley was born Nov. 6, 1944 in Sparta, to Thomas Presley Sr. and Christine Presley York.
He was a devoted father and loving family man – a simple man who loved to go fishing and watch Gunsmoke. At the age of 16, Bob started going to the pool hall and remained an avid pool and card player throughout his life.
Mr. Presley was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Roy York; brother, Thomas Presley Jr.; and sister, Betty Hall Pinion.

Kynett United Methodist Church, in Sparta, and Burton’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Algood, have received grants – $4,500 and $5,412 respectively – from the Golden Cross Foundation. Money from these grants was used to replace HVAC units and improve a parking lot.
Rev. Diantha McLeod, pastor at both churches, said, “In February 2019, both HVAC units at Kynett were in need of dire repair. One unit only heated, and the other stopped working completely. A majority of the church’s members are 55+ years old – many with medical issues that become aggravated in extreme temperatures.
