A few Democrat “issues” you might want to consider

The Right Stuff – By Donald Holman
Before too long, Democrats will be forced to make a choice and decide which candidate of the many running they want to select to go up against President Donald Trump. While at first it looked like they had a deep bench, as time has gone by, it has become apparent that many of these “on the bench” candidates were benched for a reason. They don’t seem able to make a coherent case for why they should be elected. Even after the Democrats select their party’s nominee, there are a lot of matters to be decided. Let’s look at a few issues that have bubbled up front and center over the last few months and see if we can make sense of them.
You surely have noticed the Democrat Party’s increasing attacks on people of faith. Many of the Democrats are even belittling people of faith that are praying for our American family members facing the hurricane threatening Florida and the coast. As of this last week, Democrats have added language to their collective “Resolutions” that embraces the religiously nonaffiliated. But they couldn’t stop at that. They also had to backhand those people with religious principles. “Those most loudly claiming morals values and patriotism… have used those religious views…to threaten the civil rights and liberties of many Americans…” Got it? The point is religious people are not welcome in the Democrat Party because they have things like “morals” and “standards” that they expect people to live up to. What nerve!
One of the new things Democrats are now so proud of is taking gender dysphoria off the rolls of mental illness and putting it into a socially accepted context. In other words, a male that thinks he is a female is not suffering from gender dysphoria; he just needs a little surgery here and there and voila! He/she is now a man/woman. But, of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Even though plastic surgery has come a long way in helping people with appearance problems, changing the sexual equipment of a person does not change their chromosomes. Men remain men and women, women. The most thorough study of gender re-assignment surgery, in Sweden, where the culture is extremely supportive of such actions, shows that folks operated on in this way have suicide rates 20 times their peers. Are the liberals/Democrats really doing these people a favor? Might it not be more effective to work with them on understanding they really are the gender they are born with rather than mutilating them into something they can never be? Is this really being understanding, or is it more virtue shaming? Furthermore, how does everyone using the bathroom without regard to gender help advance anything but the cause of sexual predators?
And, again, within the last few years, the Democrat Party changing laws on the state level and advocating to make it federal law that abortions should be legal until the day of birth. Not only that, but several states have okayed killing babies that survive botched abortions. Now, once the baby has been born and is outside the mother’s body, how can we fairly say that only the mother may decide? When do our laws decide murder is murder?
In case you missed it, your Democrat senators have put the Supreme Court of the United States on notice. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CN), Dick Durbin, the Democratic whip from Illinois, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) filed a “friend of the court” brief in which they warned the Supremes not to take up a second amendment case from New York, which challenges New York’s ridiculous laws surrounding taking your firearm to a shooting range to practice. Apparently, these senators put in this court filing that the Supreme Court might find itself “re-organized.” This is a veiled threat to “pack the court” like FDR tried and frightened at least one Supreme Justice to change a vote on some of his very questionable “New Deal” policies. Democrats are increasingly attacking the institutions of government that they think are thwarting their efforts to take control of our country, which leads us to the next issue.
Most of the Democrat presidential candidates are calling for the elimination of the electoral college system. Because the electoral college system groups votes by states, politicians are forced to win the majority in a large number of states across the country to become president. These Democrats don’t want to have to bother with the “fly over country” and would prefer to only run in a few large population centers, many of which are predominately left leaning, in order to win the presidency. Once more, the Democrats, instead of broadening their appeal to voters, seek to change democratic processes that have served this country well for over 200 years.
One Democrat candidate, Andrew Yang, is warning us that in very short order many of our jobs that require little education are going to be done by robots. This kind of future is not seen only by Mr. Yang but by many of the futurists. So what contribution are the thousands of illiterate, untrained illegal aliens going to make to our country? Democrats say sort of stupidly, “Immigrants (notice they leave out the illegal part) make us stronger.” Can I ask how? If we aren’t going to have enough low skill jobs for our own population, can some Democrat explain how absorbing a bunch of illiterate people not fluent in our language is going to make a contribution to the wellbeing of our country? Isn’t it far more likely they are simply going to become part of the growing group of people existing on welfare? Is the “contribution” Democrat seek votes for more Democrats?
When you read the complaining by the Democrats, both nationally and in this very newspaper, ask yourself, “Is this the party we have all known so well? Can I continue to call myself a Christian or a patriot and vote for a group of people that are devoted to doing away with every tradition and cultural belief we have that has made us strong?”
Until next week…
