Charlie Clifford Mills, 91, passed away Sept. 6, 2019, reuniting with his late wife, Betty Burgess Mills, on their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Mills was born July 13, 1928, in Sparta, to William Ernest Mills and Lilly Modena Howell Mills.
His career with Michigan Tractor lasted for 35 years where he served as the service manager and heavy equipment mechanic. After his work days – full of hard labor and dealing with customer issues – were over, he loved to come home to play baseball with his son, Roger, whether it was a game of catch or hitting balls for Roger to field. Mr. Mills came from a big family, so home and family were always very important. He even bought and resided on the old family farm. He had an unbelievable ability to remember everyone’s birthday and important dates; being one of 11 children made that no easy task.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ernest Mills and Lilly Modena Howell Mills; his wife, Betty Burgess Mills; brothers, Curtis, Carson, Jimmy, Harold; and sisters, Anna Ruth Holland, Etta Dunn, Venera Mills, and Mildred Word.
Survivors include his son, Roger Lee Mills and wife Lynne, of Sparta; grandchildren, Kylie Lynne Mills, Christopher Lee Mills; sister, Jonelda Pitman and husband James; brother, Herbert Mitchell Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Sept. 9, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Saylors Cemetery. Clint Walker will officiate. The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m., Sept. 8, at the funeral home.
Mark Holland, Mike Holland, Chris Pitman, Randy Pitman, and Jeffrey Mills will serve as pallbearers.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
