Betty Elaine Conley, 37, of Sparta, appeared in General Sessions Court Friday to answer to the charge of first-degree murder of longtime White County resident Jim Roy Haley.
Conley was arrested Nov. 18, 2003, after Haley’s body was found at his residence by a family member. Joe Finley, public defender, was appointed as her legal counsel.
The Expositor spoke with Detective Chris Isom on Sunday afternoon about the progress of the investigation. At this time, Isom said he could not release any further statements until he consulted with Special Agent Tommy Calahan, of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, who is assisting with the case.
According to records at the White County Jail, Conley will appear in court again on Dec. 5, 2003.
