On May 24, at approximately 5:36 p.m., Sergeant Dale Dodson was dispatched to Sparta Electric where it had been discovered thieves had broken in and stolen a wire caddy and several thousand feet of copper wire, as well as possibly taking some small tools.
At the scene, Officer Dodson met with Glenn Zamata, an electrician who is finishing work on the addition to Sparta Electric. Zamata stated his “gang box” in which he keeps supplies and small tools that had been broken into by prying the hinges off.
Zamata had left work around 5 p.m., on May 23, and arrived back around 8 a.m., on May 24. But he didn’t realize the “gang box” had been broken into until around 5:30 p.m. on the 24th.
The thieves took a wire caddy, 3,000 feet of #12 copper wire, 1,000 feet of stranded copper wire, 120 feet of 500 MCM copper wire, 260 feet of 3/0 copper wire as well as possibly some small tools. Approximate value of the stolen items is $2,000.
Investigator Travis Barker, of Sparta Police Department, is in charge of the investigation.
