Curtis Marie Sullivan

Curtis Marie Ward Sullivan, 93, passed away Sept. 7, 2019, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mrs. Sullivan was born Jan. 18, 1926, in the Peeled Chestnut Community, of White County, to James Marvin Ward and Esther Hutchings Ward.

She married Herd Estell Sullivan Sr., in 1949, and was a teacher in the White County School System for 43 years. Mrs. Sullivan was a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed serving as their piano player. After her retirement, she found joy in traveling, being a substitute teacher, and volunteer work for the hospital and other organizations. She was a proud member of the Retired Teachers Association and DAR. Mrs. Sullivan was devoted to God, her church, and serving others.

Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her parents, James Marvin Ward and Esther Hutchings Ward; her husband, Herd Estell Sullivan Sr.;   son, William James “Bill” Sullivan; brothers, infant Ammon Alexander Ward, Freeman (Ines) Ward; sister, Wilma Ward Wilhite (Willard); half-brothers, Beecher (Estelle) Ward, Will Morris (Jimmie Ruth) Ward; and half-sister, Addien Ward (Summer) Tallman.

Mrs. Sullivan is lovingly survived by her son, Herd Estell Sullivan, Jr. and wife Kathy, of Sparta; grandson, Shaun Sullivan and wife Ginny, of Murfreesboro; great-granddaughters, Makayla and Madison Sullivan; daughter-in-law, Carol Sullivan, of Knoxville; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sept. 10, 2019, at Liberty Baptist Church, with burial in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-8 p.m., Sept. 9, at the church. Ricky Scott will officiate the service.

Joe Stoglin, Billy Price, Austin Butera, Pat Thompson, Jeff Stafford, Jack Stafford, Gary Stafford, and Ron Scarlett will serve as pallbearers.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Dearly loved, & will be missed by so many. She is a true inspiration, & now a angel to so many. Live you Ms, Curtis. You our family’s loving grace, for so many generations. May you test now, and know how precious you are and always will be
