Ellen McFeeters Turnbull

Ellen McFeeters Turnbull, 91, of Berea, Ky., passed away June 6, 2007.
Turnbull was born March 30, 1916, in Assuit, Egypt, to Milo C. McFeeters and Elma McFeeters, where her parents were missionaries and teachers at Asyut College.
Turnbull was a summa cum laude graduate of Geneva College and attended two years of medical school. She taught in the Overton County school system and was the last teacher at a one-room school in the Cravenstown community. She was a member of Union Church in Berea, Ky., an active community volunteer and advocate for peace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Frank J. Turnbull; one son, Paul F. Turnbull; and one sister, Ruth McFeeters.
Survivors include seven children, Dr. David M. Turnbull, of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., Margaret Sutters, of Berea, Ky., Judge John A. Turnbull, of Livingston, Joseph T. Turnbull, of Marion, N.C., Mary Ellen Johnston, of Prattville, N.C., Elma Jessen, of Bloomington, Ind. Jane Weatherford, of Richmond, Ky.; one sister, Mary Frances Robinson, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one foster son, Tae Sic Ro, of Youngstown, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services were 3 p.m., June 9, 2007, at Union Church, in Berea, Ky., with burial at Berea Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ellen Turnbull Memorial Fund, Christ Church Presbyterian, 250 Pat Carr Lane, Alpine, TN, 38543.
Davis-Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
