Ezra Dow Bray

Ezra Dow Bray, 85, of Sparta, formerly of Illinois, passed Dec. 27, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bray was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Sparta, a son of Dow and Manda Lafever Bray.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and worked as a machinist.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bray was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Ruth Swanson Bray; son, Charles Ezra Bray; two brothers, Avery Bray, Amos Bray; two sisters, Bernise Bray, Vernie Allen; granddaughter, Alicia Dawn Ammon; and grandson, Nathaniel James Huie.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Rayborn Bray, of Sparta; son, Jeff Bray, of Sparta; seven daughters, Barbara White (Larry), of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Sherry Medows (Larry), of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Patti Mortland (Myron), of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Brenda Estes (Carr), of Godfrey, Ill., Cyndi Cureton (Tim), of Booneville, Ind., Melinda Emery, of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Amy Woollard (Ben), of Clarmont, Ill.; two brothers, Gene Bray, of Sparta, Bill Bray, of Sparta; three sisters, Elsie Scott, of Sparta, Dean Snyder, of Sparta, Shirley Burdette, of Harriman; 15 grandsons; eight granddaughters; and many great-grandchildren and dear friends.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Dec. 30, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, and 9-11 a.m., Dec. 31, at Athens Church of Christ. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Dec. 31, at the church, with burial in Perkins Cemetery. Gene Bray and Larry Meadows will officiate.
