Fire departments to hold open houses

The public will get a chance to meet and greet Sparta and White County’s brave firefighters and rescue squad members during a countywide open house from 2-4 p.m., October 12.
Every hour of each day, every day of the year, these unsung heroes risk their personal safety to save the lives and property of their neighbors.
Most of these firefighters are volunteers who rush into dangerous situations on a daily basis. They give of their time to provide a service that has been a basic community need as long as the county has been settled.
That is why this open house is so important. Without community support, these firefighters would not be able to do their jobs.
The men and women that the public relies on during what are usually the worst moments of their lives, train to become experts with their tools and techniques. And they rely on their equipment to save lives, including their own.
Grants, fundraisers and donations are the only sources for the departments to obtain proper lifesaving gear and training.
The downturn in the economy has caused everyone to tighten purse strings, but the fires and wrecks still occur. Homes and lives depend on what they do and how well they are equipped to do it.
The level of proficiency of the county’s fire departments also has a direct impact on insurance rates. A lack of sufficient fire protection means rates go up.
This open house will allow everyone the chance to see the selfless determination and giving hearts of these everyday heroes, who ask for little in return.
Visit the nearest fire department to thank those who take on the daunting responsibility upon which all White Countians depend.
Below is a list of all departments. Take a minute to stop by and say thanks during this open house event.
