A video on a cell phone, which had been forfeited at a local pawnshop, led to the arrest of a 48-year-old White County man for his alleged involvement in the rape of a child less than 13 years of age.
According to Detective John Ford with White County Sheriff Department, Edward Ray Gilley Jr., 48, of White County, was arrested, at approximately 7 p.m., on Mar. 24, after a search led to his whereabouts at the ‘Park and Ride’ at the Baxter exit off Interstate 40.
Ford stated he received information from the pawnshop owner, who discovered explicit video while deleting files on the cell phone to prepare it for resale.
He said the owner recognized the identity of the child, which led to more evidence that reportedly pointed to Gilley Jr. as a suspect.
A special grand jury convened, on Mar. 18, and issued a warrant for Gilley Jr.’s arrest.
Ford stated officials with Department of Children Services were notified of the situation, and two children were removed from Gilley Jr.’s residence and placed into state custody.
Gilley Jr. faces multiple charges and is being held at White County Justice Center under a $250,000 bond.
His first court appearance is scheduled for March 14.
