Funeral services for Isaac Herbert Bohanon, 94, of Algood will be 1 p.m., Aug. 1, 2009, at the Algood Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, in Algood, with Rev. Robert Utley officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Algood Heritage Cemetery.
Mr. Bohanon departed this life July 28, 2009, Life Care Center of Sparta.
He was born October 22, 1914 in Putnam County, TN to the late Isaac Taylor and Elizabeth Marchbanks Bohanon.
Mr. Bohanon was a life-long Methodist and a faithful member of Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church more than 60 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He received his education in Putnam County at Algood Elementary School and Darwin High School in Cookeville. He received his Bachelor of Science and masters’ degrees in Education from of Tennessee State University. He was a retired Putnam County educator teaching at the former Darwin High School and Central High School for more than 32 years. He was a member of the Putnam County and Tennessee Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 61 years, Amanda Beatrice Bailey Bohanon; four brothers, Joe Claude Bohanon, Bill Bohanon, Cordell Bohanon, Jim Bohanon;and three sisters, Ruby Johnson, Martha Stone and Della Osborne.
Mr. Bohanon is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Brenda Bohanon of Sparta; two grandchildren, Bradford Bohanon, of Cookeville, Danette and her husband Gary Gardenhire Jr., of Sparta, four great-grandchildren, Isaiah Gardenhire, Madison Gardenhire, Jeremiah Gardenhire, all of Sparta, Dyllon Bohanon, of Lebanon; two sisters-in-law, Birdie Bailey, Frances Coggins, both of Lebanon; a cousin, Paul Marchbanks, of Knoxville; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were very supportive through this time.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., July 31, and noon until time of services, on Aug. 1, at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, Algood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
