Merry Christmas

For 16 years now, I have been using my column as my personal Christmas card to my readers and since I have the forum, I suppose I will do it again.
Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. Yes, it began as a favorite because of all the gifts Santa Claus would always leave under my tree. I always had an extensive list. One of the specific memories I look back on now as an adult and laugh about, is the year I asked for the game, Buck-a-Roo. Around 1970, this was a very popular game. (If you know me any at all, you know I am a game fanatic. This started at an early age.)
Well as it turned out, the game was in such high demand; Santa Claus had a little trouble getting all of the games made for those who had asked for it. I awoke on Christmas morning to find a note from Santa that said just that and that I would receive mine later. True to Santa’s word, I got my game in a few weeks and all was right with the world. Of course, I was not without because of the delay in craftsmanship. I have been blessed through the years in many aspects and that includes all the wares I have found under the tree on Christmas morning.
As I have grown older, I still love to open presents, but have found it much better to give someone a present they really like. If I were a rich person, all my friends would get lots of gifts because I love to see people happy with their presents. Unfortunately, I am far from rich and have to limit my purchases and be a bit creative at times.
Now, the best thing about the holidays is getting to spend time with family and friends. Even as a young child, I always loved the get-togethers at the holidays. You see I was an only child so the dinners gave me lots of cousins to share my new toys and games with. I feel pretty sure on my dad’s side, my cousins weren’t so happy about me coming in with new toys. You see I was the youngest by at least five years. I’m not sure how much they liked playing with my new items.
I have already been fortunate to be a part of four Christmas gatherings this year and it’s just the 22nd of December. I have loved each and every one of them so far and guess what? I’ve not opened the first present yet.
There’s still plenty of time for that and I have plans to spend time with family and friends over the next three days at least.
I am actually further ahead in my shopping than I have ever been at this point. I have finished up just about all of my shopping and have everything wrapped. Being able to shop online really makes a difference.
I hope all of you reading this, whether you call me friend or not, have a wonderful holiday. I hope you get to spend time with all your loved ones whether they are family or friends because both are very important in our lives. I hope that each of you find your “Buck-A-Roo” under the tree on Christmas morning. And if not, remember there are plenty of other gifts for which to be grateful on this special holiday.
I also realize that for many families out there, the holidays are not a joyful time this year for one reason or another. My prayers go out to all who are dealing with trying times.
Once again, I feel bad because I did not send out Christmas cards and I have received so many. I may make it my New Year’s resolution to send out cards next year. I will have to start a month or two ahead making my list and checking it twice and will have to budget it in, but that is my goal for next year.
Therefore once again, I will extend my Christmas greetings in this space. Merry Christmas to my readers, as well as my friends and family!
