Farmer veterans found throughout Tennessee agriculture

From vegetable growers and livestock producers, to agritourism operators and farm artisans, farmer veterans can be found throughout all types of agriculture in the Volunteer state. As you honor the brave men and women who have served our country this Veterans Day, you have the opportunity to support a farmer veteran near you.

According to the national Census of Agriculture, Tennessee has more than 14,000 farmers with military service. One of them is Dusken Sledge, owner of Wake Robin Homestead in Blount County. Sledge served in the Army National Guard, and now produces a variety of agricultural products for the public and local restaurants.

Sparta Christmas Parade

Rotary Club of Sparta presents the 2019 Christmas parade. The theme is “Mele Kalikimaka – A Hawaiian Christmas.” The parade begins at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14. Lineup begins at 2 p.m. at White County High School. First place prize is $300, second place $200, and third place $100. For more information call Michael Hale (931) 836-3613. Jerry Worthington, 67, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 8, 2019, at this residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Dorinda Joy Driver Henry

Dorinda Joy Driver Henry, 55, was born Oct. 1, 1964, and passed away Nov. 8, 2019.

Mrs. Henry graduated with honors from Tennessee Technological University, in 1988, with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. She went on to the banking industry, working with Citizens Bank, Union Planners, Regions Bank, and Putnam First Mercantile. She had many awards and accolades throughout her career and was passionate about helping people. Mrs. Henry touched many lives with her testimony and perseverance. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and loved her church family. She was loved by all who knew her.

Veterans’ Day Parade

A Veterans’ Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. Line up for the parade begins at 9 a.m., at White County High School. The parade will proceed to the Rotary Veterans Park for a special program. All veterans are encouraged to participate. For more information call (931) 836-3595.



WCMS 7th grade basketball results

On Nov. 4,  the White County Middle School seventh grade Warriors traveled to Pine Haven to compete in basketball.  The Warriors lost the game to Pine Haven by a score of 38 to 29.  Free throws created a problem for the Warriors.  They made four free throws while attempting 15.  Gage Stephenson led the Warriors with 11 points.  Tripp Pinion scored eight points.  Keaun Lewis put in six points.  Nathaniel Griffin and Lucas Dickerson scored two points each in the loss.

On Nov. 5, the Warriors took on Cannon County’s seventh grade team.  Extra time had to be played to determine the winner of this … CONTINUED
