Cope named Principal of the Year for Middle Tennessee Region

“BonDeCroft Elementary Principal Sara Cope was recognized by the Tennessee Department of Education, on Tuesday evening, (Nov. 5, 2019) as one of the nine finalists for Principal of the Year. She placed in the top three and was named the Principal of the Year for the Middle Tennessee Region.

What: Please bring in NEW travel size bottles of hygiene items, or money can also be donated

Items: Soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, Etc.

Why: Jr Beta will be creating hygiene package for the students at White County Middle that are in need.

Caney Fork Baptist veterans’ program set for Nov. 10

Caney Fork Baptist Church, at 2404 Highway 70 East, in Cookeville, will be having a Veterans’ Day service beginning at 10:50 a.m., Nov. 10. Lt. Col. Life Care Center of Sparta raising funds to benefit Alzheimer’s of TN

Life Care Center of Sparta will be selling 2020 picture calendars now through Dec. 13, 2019, to help raise money for Alzheimer’s of Tennessee. These calendars would make great Christmas gifts. They are unique in their own way. To honor those who are living with this heartbreaking disease or in memory of loved ones who have passed away, their picture is placed in the slot on their birthday. Bible scriptures are throughout, and it will be a teaching tool as well on dementia and Alzheimer’s.

William Kirk Carver

William Kirk Carver, 64 of Sparta, passed away Nov. 2, 2019.

Mr. Carver was born Jan. 11, 1955, in Bridgeport, Alabama, to William Robert Carver and Lila Fay Graham Carver.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Nov. 5, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Highland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Nov. 5, at the funeral home.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eric Lynn Luna

Eric Lynn Luna, 55, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 3, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 28, 1964, in Sparta, to Ollie Gene and Myrna Faye Luna.

Staff Sgt. Eric Luna was a retired veteran of the Tennessee Army National Guard, with 21 years and seven months of service to his country. He began his military career at the McMinnville Armory, as a medic, then transferred to the Sparta Armory as a non-commissioned officer. Six months after having major brain surgery, he served overseas for several months in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 278th Armored Cavalry Division to stand … CONTINUED

Light the tree

Celebrate the start of Christmas in the Park with the fifth annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Christmas Celebration Service Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at Dogwood Park, 30 E. Broad St. Be there, along with Santa, as the lights come on, brightening the nearly 40-foot Christmas tree, followed by a 15-minute lightshow synchronized to music.
