Pharmacist Alan Tatum of Payless Drugs in Sparta, was named Sparta/White County Chamber of Commerce Member of the Month in February.
Tatum, a resident of the area since 1977, is a pharmacist at Payless Drug Store in Sparta, and a member of the Chamber since 1994.
He considers Sparta his home.
“I’m honored to be the Chamber person of the month,” said Tatum.
“I strongly believe in the Chamber of Commerce and wish every business owner in town would join.
They are always very helpful and will provide at no charge to any member demographic information which assists in the offering of new products or services to the area.”
He is proud of the work of the Chamber, and the dedication of President Wallace Austin to bringing new industry and businesses to the White County area.
“The Chamber also offers me networking possibilities with other Chamber members,” said Tatum.
Tatum attended the University of Tennessee at Martin for his undergraduate degree, and received his pharmacist degree at UT’s Memphis pharmacological school.
He has two daughters and a son: Jennifer Crawford, 27, a compounding expert; Tiffany Harris, 28, a pharmacist; and Jeremy Tatum, 25, who works in pharmaceutical marketing.
Tatum’s wife, Joyce, is active in volunteering for the Sparta/White County Public Library as a traveling storyteller, and she is currently at work on a book, Tales from the Hollow.
They attend the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville, and have one granddaughter, Chelsea Crawford.
“I really believe in the Chamber of Commerce,” said Tatum, who just completed three years of service on its board of directors.
“Alan has been supportive of the Chamber for eight years,” said Wallace Austin, Chamber president.
“We really appreciate his recent leadership and his continuing willingness to support the Chamber.”
