Employees at Phillips Professional Luminaires were treated to a luncheon, on June 25, which was attended by several dignitaries, including state representatives Charlotte Burkes and Henry Fincher, as well as business and industry leaders from Sparta, White County and across the Upper Cumberland.
“This today is all about appreciation,” said Dave Uhrik, Philips Sparta’s plant manager. “We recently had a visit by our international, global operations manager and he claims we’re the best in North America. (He) wants us to be the best in the world and he thinks we can do it.”
He explained the plant has received several awards and it is all because of the efforts of the Philips employees.
Among just some of the accolades awarded the Philips Sparta plant was Industry Week’s Best Plants in North America and Plant of the Year Award for 2009.
The Sparta plant has been hiring local residents, and has been a household word in White County, for 47 years.
Philips employs approximately 235, with a total square footage of 300,000.
Its primary product is lighting fixtures. Philips Sparta processes approximately 14,000 lighting units per day.
Philips Sparta not only continues to survive in this challenging economic time, but also has proven to be an award-winning team.
“Everything I just said is because of all you people and the community and your families,” Uhrik told the crowd. “You work a lot of hours. You have to come in for a lot of overtime. You have to do a lot of things and you all come through. And we appreciate that. Thank you.”
