Phyllis N. Mabry

Phyllis N. Mabry, 81, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2011.
After raising her family she returned to school and finished her Bachelor of Education degree from Millikin University, in Decatur, Ill., and earned her Master of Education degree from Illinois State University, in Normal, Ill. She was head of the English department at Eisenhower High School District of Decatur, Ill., with 22 years of service.
She became a Christian at 18 and served the Lord through the Baptist Church. For several years she wrote an entertainment column for the Decatur Herald and Review and had several articles, including a short story published.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Mabry.
Survivors include three children, Steven Mabry, of Greenville, N.C., Victoria M. Friesz, of Sparta, Jodi A. Lebron, of Jacksonville, Fla; five grandchildren, Mathew Mabry, of Canton, Mich., Julie B. Barfield, of Springfield, Mo., Sarah A. Barfield, Ashley B. Lebron and Travis G. Lebron, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Patty Manley, of Salem, W.V., Elaine Good, of Sissonville, W.V.; and Sharon Garner, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Jean Allmaker, of Cleveland, Ohio.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., April 2, 2011, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Pinewood Memorial Park, in Greenville, N.C. Nick Holman will officiate.
