From Pakistan to the states and finally, home in Sparta, pulmonary specialist Ahmad Rashid, M.D., is happy to be able to plant roots near other family.
Rashid did his internal medicine residency in St. Louis and Washington University. He then did critical care training at the University of Pittsburgh and Pulmonology training at Chicago Medical School.
“I heard about Sparta, met the people, saw the hospital and came for an interview,” said Rashid.
Rashid said his sister, Dr. Saima Rashid, who also specializes in internal medicine with a focus on rheumatology, opened her practice here in White County just last year.
Ahmad is married with two children, a son who is 4-years-old and a 2-month-old daughter.
One area Ahmad wants to focus on is taking care of any sleep problems a patient may have.
“We provide state-of-the-art care,” said Ahmad, “For people who snore, who have problems sleeping, insomnia, nightmares, any sleep issue at all, is one of my special areas of focus.”
Ahmad is teaming up with Dr. Stylianos Kakoullis in Pulmonology Associates of White County to offer area residents complete pulmonary disease treatment.
“We have sleep labs here,” said Ahmad, “and after someone has a sleep study done. We can discuss what can be done about their diagnosis.”
Pulmonology is classified as an internal medicine subspecialty requiring extensive training and specialized skills in the diagnosis and treatment of all lung conditions and diseases including respiratory and chest medicine.
“Patients come first,” said Ahmad, “whatever it takes. What we are planning to do with Dr. Kakoullis and myself is provide 24/7 ICU hospital specialist coverage.”
Diseases managed by a pulmonologist include, but are not limited to: asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, pneumonia, and sleep apnea.
Pulmonology Associates of White County provides 24/7 care. Rashid is available for office appointments for clinic from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Call 738-2225 to set up an appointment.
