Rowena Goodwin Ray

Rowena Goodwin Ray, 95, of Cookeville, passed away April 4, 2002.
Ray was born March 27, 1907, in White County, to Sam and Lovvie Floyd Goodwin.
She was a charter member of Akron Baptist Temple. Her other memberships included over 50 years at First Baptist Church, Gideons Auxiliary, Home Demonstration and W.M.U. Ray was also a homemaker and seamstress and enjoyed visiting nursing homes.
Ray was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Will Ray; one daughter, Florene Elizabeth Ray; three brothers, Lee Goodwin, Clyde Goodwin and Herbert Goodwin; and one sisters, Hallie Sullivan.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Jimmie Newsom and Carolyn and Stan Piela all of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Shelly Slaton, Neal Newsom, Holly Piela and Erica Piela; two great grandchildren, Brittany Slaton and Jackson Slaton; two sisters, Mary Kate Roberts of Pennsylvania and Martha Adkins of Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Catheryn Martin Goodwin of Cookeville and Jessie Howell Goodwin and Linnie Erwin Goodwin both of Sparta.
Services were held at 2 p.m., April 7, 2002, at the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home with burial in Saylors Cemetery in White County. Bro. Charlie Hutchinson and Bro. Tim Adams officiated.
Dyer Funeral Home in Cookeville was in charge of arrangements.
