Radio personality Marty (Selby) McFly chose his hometown of Sparta to recently announce the launch of his “Hometown Strong” organization. Hometown Strong will help start and support charity projects in towns across Middle Tennessee.

The first project for which “Hometown Strong” was raising funds was the “Shop With a Cop” program with Sparta-White County YMCA and Sparta Police Department. “Shop With a Cop” will connect less fortunate children with police officers at Christmas for a free shopping trip.

The main event funding the “Shop With a Cop” program was a  “Blue Light Ride” that began at 11 a.m., Oct. 19, at Pearson Park, in Sparta. The cost was $25 per person, with all proceeds benefitting Sparta’s “Shop With a Cop” program. (Photos by KIM SWINDELL WOOD)
