The fifth Sparta Green Market of 2016 will be 4-7 p.m., Sept. 16, at Metcalf Park, in the Farmers’ Market Pavilion, in downtown Sparta. The Green Market in Sparta is the only downtown evening market event with produce, meat, fruit, flowers and entertainment.
“The Sparta Green Market features fresh produce, pumpkins, and bluegrass entertainment,” says Margaret Petre, event organizer. “The Market has the best blend of local farm products and free entertainment in a unique evening venue on the square in Sparta. The Green Market is every third Friday, May through October.”
The Green Market thanks its sponsor, Sheer Delights and Marvin Bullock, president of Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce, for printing the list of vendors and open businesses around Liberty Square.
Visitors are encouraged to bring the family, dine out at one of the Liberty Square restaurants, and to visit local shops that are open especially for the Sparta Green Market. Look for the green balloons outside each shop that is open.
The Mockingbirds, with Seth Webster and Nathan Dodson, provides bluegrass entertainment, 4-7 p.m.
“An evening event in Sparta is a good and fun way for families and friends to eat dinner downtown, visit local businesses, enjoy the Green Market, and listen to a free bluegrass concert starting at 7 p.m.,” says Petre. “We encourage everyone to support downtown Sparta, enjoy the free entertainment, educational booths, locally grown meat, veggies, fruit, honey, flowers, eggs and much more.”
Sparta Green Market is a “green” outing so please bring reusable bags for produce and other goods. Remember there is no smoking, and please do not bring your dogs to the event. The Sparta Green Market is a non-profit group that seeks to create an evening market experience every third Friday from May to October. Vendors are required to register. All transactions are between the attendee and the vendor. The Green Market is not responsible for items sold during the market. Bring chairs, an iced cooler for meats, poultry or other items you may purchase.
