Sparta White County Rescue Squad responded to the Big Bottom area of White County to search for a missing person around 6:35 a.m. on Nov. 25. Initial reports stated that the individual had never returned from a hunting trip.

Upon arrival at the scene, rescue members, along with some of the missing individual’s family, spotted the subject’s vehicle in a river. Shortly after the car was spotted, the subject was located on the other side of the river. Members of the Rescue Squad Swift Water team deployed a raft and paddled across the river to retrieve the subject. The subject, although cold and wet, was talking and coherent. Rescue Squad members transported the individual to White County Emergency Medical Service who was standing by in the parking area during the search and rescue operation.

“I would like to take a moment and thank Putnam and Cumberland County Rescue Squads on their fast response, as well as TWRA,” T.C. Good, assistant chief at Sparta-White County Rescue Squad, said. “Anytime you’re dealing with several acres of woods or water, it is always great to know we have plenty of manpower and help from our neighboring squads.”

All rescue personnel cleared the scene at 11 a.m.
