Steven Martin MacDonell

Steven Martin MacDonell, 68, passed away Nov. 26, 2019, at Saint Thomas River Park Hospital. He was a Spencer resident and a native of Tampa, Florida.
Mr. MacDonell was born Sept. 11, 1951, to Kenneth Archibald MacDonell and Virginia Ruth Martin MacDonell. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a master mechanic for Chrysler and Ford, and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a well-known caver and was a member of the National Speleological Society. He was a founding member of Spencer Mountain Grotto, a member of the Southern Cruisers Motorcycle Club, and rode with the Christian Motorcycle Association. He was an avid amateur radio operator, with his call sign being KE4GZD.
He is survived by his loving wife, Allison MacDonell, of Spencer; daughter, Virginia Lynn (Barry) McCormick, of McMinnville; stepdaughter, Melissa Nan Frierson, of Spencer; sisters, Karen Martin Kennedy, of Daytona, Florida, Jonni MacDonell, of Los Angeles, California; stepbrother, Rodney Bonnot, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Carissa (Justin) Jones, Meagan Burgess, Dakota Holland, Christina and Carl Ottinger; and great-grandchildren, Carter Wade and Caelynn Rose Jones.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Nov. 30, 2019, at Layne Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Mike Norris will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. MacDonell chose to be cremated. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
