Alexander Carl Grebel, affectionately known by Al to family and friends, 84, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 26, 2021, at his residence.
Al was born Oct. 25, 1937, in Neptune, New Jersey, to Carl and Paula Grebel.
He owned Al Grebel Plumbing and Heating, in Sparta, for over 40 years. Al was active in the community and founded the Gracemoor House, in Sparta. He and his wife were original, active members of Christpoint Church, and he proudly served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Wasp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Weeden Jr.
Surviving family members include his wife of 61 years, Grace Weeden Grebel; three sons, Alexander C. “Alex” Grebel Jr. and wife Kim, Steven Michael Grebel, Richard Alan Grebel; two grandsons, Alexander Raymond Grebel, Ryan Matthew Grebel; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Chichester Grebel; adopted granddaughters, Ashli Paul, Alyssa Paul; brother-in-law, Robert Weeden and wife Elaine; sister-in-law, Susie Weeden; and several nieces and nephews.
Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with Al’s cremation. A memorial service will be 5:30 p.m., Dec. 6, 2021, at Christpoint Church. There is no planned visitation prior to the service. Steve Qualls will officiate.
