Annual homeless count conducted by HART

Posted

(Crossville, Jan. 7, 2021) - Each year, in keeping with the strategic plan put in place by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness to effectively end homelessness, communities across the United States conduct a homeless point in time (PIT) count. This count is designed to provide a snapshot of a region’s sheltered and unsheltered homeless population, and the information collected is used to assess the need and help leverage resources to prevent and end homelessness in our community. As we are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to effectively reach the homeless and assist them in being housed is greater than ever before. Local volunteers and service agency staff will work together to gather information on the homeless population by counting those who are living on the street, in their vehicle, tent, or other place not meant for human habitation.

This PIT count is organized by the Homeless Advocacy for Rural Tennessee (HART) and will be taking place on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021. If you would like to assist in the 2021 PIT count in our region on the night of Jan. 26, 2021, please contact HART at 931-484-3207 or email: chdc@crossvillehousing.org.  Additional information about homelessness and HART can be found at: www.hartn.org.
