Area rescue squads search for possible drowning victim

A search at Rock Island State Park for a possible drowning victim did not prove successful for the numerous emergency services agencies involved in the effort

On Jan. 20, 2023, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad responded to Rock Island State Park for mutual aid to the Warren County Rescue Squad.

The operation consisted of rescue using the bottom/side scan sonar to search for the image of a possible drowning victim. The Jan. 21 search was not a successful operation for all the sonar crews on the water: Beersheba Springs Rescue Squad, Warren County Rescue, Coffee County Rescue Squad, Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad, Cumberland County Rescue Squad, Christian Aid Ministries SAR Team, State Park Rangers, and Sparta-White Rescue Squad.

“Thanks goes out to TWRA for water support in keeping other boats slow in the area,” said Charlie Tollison, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad assistant chief and public information officer. “Food was given to workers by Warren County Rescue, Ladies of the Christian Aid Ministries, and the family of the missing victim. Thank you to all the supporters in each county that make it possible for all rescue squads to have the equipment to respond to such calls.”
