Attendance at basketball games limited by governor's order

 On Dec. 19, 2020, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee issued Executive Order No. 70 which, among other things, restricted those allowed to attend school athletic practices and events because of the significant increase in Tennesseans testing positive for COVID-19.

Under the new Executive Order, attendance by most spectators, including the student body, will not be allowed. The only attendees permitted at practices or games, in addition to the student-athletes on the team, are:

1. Players’ parents or guardians and immediate household members. (Individuals must be on the approved list provided by administration to gate workers.)
2. First responders
3. Coaching and team personnel
4. School, game, and facility administrators
5. Athletics officials
6. Pre-approved media and athletic scouting personnel attending the event in their professional capacity (These individuals must be pre-approved by administration and be confirmed employees of the media organization).

Principal Greg Wilson said White County High School would be following the restrictive guidelines handed down from the governor. In addition, no bands, pep bands, cheerleaders, or dance teams may attend any athletic contests while these restrictions remain in place.

“I understand that this is very difficult for our wonderful fanbase,” Wilson said.

He further stated that White County High School’s goal will be to provide updates to their fanbase with timely details as to how games may be viewed.

 “We are working to provide coverage via social media to as many events as possible,” Wilson said. “Our Warrior Media staff will continue to do the awesome job they do for our community. We are also working with other media outlets to gather information on other games carried by their organizations.”

Wilson said the Warrior staff will continue to update teams, players, families, and the community as often as they are given information from both the TSSAA and the governor’s office, but, at this time, the current Executive Order is set to remain in place through January 19.

“Please be patient, as we continue to work our way through this very unusual situation,” is the message Wilson wants to send to the disappointed fanbase in White County.  “We appreciate your understanding.”
